Job Summary

The Senior Specialist Mining Engineer will function as the subject matter expert within North Atlantic Operations for mine designs and life of mine plans. As such this role will stay abreast on industry best practice in their domain, and is accountable for establishing, maintaining, and communicating best practices, and auditing if how these practices are being followed. This role will be responsible to understand the underlying economics of the mines, including but not limited to cut off, the key value drivers, constraints and will provide recommendations to the individual mine plan owners. The delivery of specialized mine design technical support to other technical teams as requested is also a responsibility of this role.

Major Accountabilities

  • Function as the subject matter expert within North Atlantic Operations for mine designs and life of mine plans.
  • Subject matter expert of mine planning best practices, planning tools, as well as regulations in the mining industry.
  • Responsible for the North Atlantic annual planning cycle calendar, collaborating with various corporate & North Atlantic Operations groups and ensuring the business\xe2\x80\x99s overarching strategy is incorporated into North Atlantic\xe2\x80\x99s mine plans.
  • Develop and maintain mine design, life of mine plan & 5-year plan best practices, standards, guidelines, and templates.
  • Provide technical assurance to leadership that mine design best practices, standards, and guidelines are being followed, as well as recommendations for improvements and risk mitigation.
  • Analysis of the consolidated life of mine plans and the formation of guidance to individual sites and projects on how their mine plans can be optimized to improve the overall business.
  • Analysis and communication of the underlying economics of each mine; where is the value coming from, what are the main constraints, and provide recommendations to further optimize the mine plan.
  • Provide specialized mine design support and analysis to other technical teams as requested.
  • Mentoring of the mine design and life of mine planning people resources within North Atlantic Operations
Education
  • Undergraduate degree in Mining engineering
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in mining
  • 5+ years of underground mine design experience
  • P.Eng designation (Preferred)
