In Mississauga, you\xe2\x80\x99ll find Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Base Metals Technology Development team; a group of highly trained engineers and scientists working to improve Vale\xe2\x80\x99s competitive edge and support its growth strategies by coming up with safer and more environmentally responsible technology.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Specialist Metallurgist/Engineer to join our Centre of Excellence Pyrometallurgy Department in Mississauga. This is a permanent position.As the Specialist Metallurgist/Engineer, you will plan and execute technical investigation programs, by applying in-depth technical expertise in pyrometallurgy, to identify and demonstrate solutions to specific process challenges in, and opportunities for, the Base Metals operations. Additionally in this position you will:

• Plan, execute and report on technical investigation programs, ensuring they are completed in a safe, timely and effective manner. This includes interacting with other Technology and Engineering experts and representatives from other business units (e.g., Operating Divisions, Marketing) as well as external experts (technology and equipment vendors, engineering companies, universities).
• Participate in the definition and review of the metallurgical Process Design Criteria and Technical Standards documents, completion of mass- and energy-balances for the current and planned operations.
• Work with counterparts in Process Tech groups in Base Metals Operations to address noted deviations from the approved Process Design Basis. Provides technical feedback and advice in response to specific process technology needs of Operations.
• Participate in process technical peer reviews of other process technical investigation programs.
• Maintain awareness of best-in-class process technology development and make recommendations for assessment for potential adoption in Base Metals operations; foster and maintain network of contacts with technology and equipment vendors, engineering companies, universities, and other technical institutions.
• Provide technical training to junior staff and personnel in the operations.

About YouEducation:

• A degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Materials Science Engineering, or related discipline
• P. Eng is an asset.

Experience:

• A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience in Pyrometallurgy

Skills:

• Leadership in safety practices and behaviors.
• Ability to take ownership of the work and possess work management skills (resourcing, planning & anticipating, results focused, time management, etc).
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Able to write clear and concise reports. Possess effective communication and interpersonal skills within technical teams at T&I and Vale Base Metals operations.
• Specific process technical expertise \xe2\x80\x93 fundamentals and practical aspects
• Developed professional network with industry and academia technical experts.
