The Opportunity
Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity within the Canadian Business Unit (CBU) for a Senior HSE Advisor. This role will report directly to the Manager, HSE and Sustainability and will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.
We're seeking a Senior HSE Advisor to support safe, compliant operations across our drilling, completions, equip and tie-in and facilities construction activities in our Alberta and British Columbia assets. This role will be an integrated resource, providing support for field and office personnel, focusing on HSE program enhancement & implementation, supporting HSE application optimization, and providing training and compliance assurance. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the HSE team and will support developing our HSE culture across the Canadian operation.
The role will be required to travel to Vermilion properties in Alberta and BC on a regular basis, mainly focused around the Drayton Valley and Dawson Creek areas. The location is flexible based on the successful candidate (AB: Calgary, Drayton Valley; BC: Dawson Creek, Fort St. John).
What you will do
Provide onsite HSE support for drilling, completions, well servicing, and workover operations across Alberta and British Columbia
Provide onsite HSE support for facilities construction, maintenance, and turnaround activities
Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of the CBUHSE program and associated HSE management system elements
Facilitate safety meetings, task-specific hazard assessments, control assurance activities, and field inspections
Engage with contractors and service providers to support regulatory compliance and alignment with company HSE expectations, policies/practices, the Life Saving Rules, and other programs
Lead incident investigations, including evidence collection, root cause analysis, recommendation development, and corrective action tracking through closure
Analyze and trend HSE data, providing insights to leadership and operations to guide performance improvements and program adjustments
Support the maintenance of accurate HSE documentation, including training records, inspection findings, and internal audit results
Support regulatory audit response preparation and submission
Support the implementation of a control assurance program
Support HSE training and competency programs, including orientation, onboarding, supervisor training, ERP drills/activations, and readiness assessments
Communicate HSE program changes and initiatives, lead HSE Alert distribution and follow-up, ensuring consistent rollout and implementation
Provide guidance and program compliance assurance during critical operations, including, but not limited to, confined space entry, energy isolation, hot work, SIMOPS, lifting operations, and ground disturbance
Build strong relationships with frontline workers, supervisors, and leadership to promote a practical, learning-focused safety culture aligned with Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention
What you will bring
Diploma/degree or certification in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
10+ years of HSE experience (drilling/completions or similar field operations preferred)
Strong understanding of DCET lifecycle hazards, regulations, and safe work practices
Effective communicator with strong coaching and field leadership skills
Required safety certifications and valid driver's licence
