Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Electrical, Instrumentation and SIS Supervisor, part of Engineering and Technical Services (E&TS) department.

This position is located in Redwater, Alberta, Canada and is not available for remote work.

What you will do:

  • Provide electrical design, engineering and related technologies evaluation. This includes but is not limited to origination, preparation, review, approval, authentication and validation of electrical discipline deliverables
  • Lead electrical conceptual studies, projects scope development, detailed engineering design
  • Support tests, installation, commissioning, integration, validation, and associated startup activities
  • Oversee technical work of contract electrical designers also various 3rd party electrical engineering service providers
  • Perform electrical Management of Change including the development of the CWP\'s (Construction Work Packages)
  • Review and support (including provide technical guidance on) externally engineered design deliverables and packages, studies, electrical models and associated tests and commissioning procedures
  • Support electrical maintenance team and other engineering disciplines on troubleshooting, events analysis and engineering solutions
  • Participate in development/updates of test procedures, technical specifications, electrical codes and industry standards requirements interpretations, site-specific standards and practices developments
  • Lead electrical initiatives and collaborate with other engineering disciplines as well as operations and maintenance groups based on Nutrien/Industry standards, electrical codes and best practices (RAGAGEPs)
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school and APEGA professional engineer for 5+ years (or equivalently from other Canadian provinces)
  • Preferred 10 years of directly relevant electrical design/engineering experience with performance records and reference recommendations fully aligned with job descriptions
  • Requisite knowledge and application of Canadian Electrical Code, applicable building codes, energy codes and adopted industry standards and best practices (RAGAGEPs)
  • Proficiencies in electrical equipment sizing, and electrical engineering/design calculations, technology selection and technical evaluation
  • Proficiencies in design/engineering of key electrical deliverables: single line diagrams and hazardous area classification drawings, load lists, fault/arc flash calculations, control schematic diagrams, cable engineering deliverables, datasheets and power system studies
  • Both hands-on field and design proficiencies in key areas (15KV and below): switchgears, fault protections, area classification, certificates/protections, ground systems, lighting, electrical models (ETAP), arc flash, contactors and relays, electric generators and UPSs, MCCs, cable engineering, VFDs/starters and EHT
  • Competencies in areas: power quality, networks and fiber optics, cabinets and electrical buildings, F&G alarm systems, control and relay logic, actuators
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizing, judgment, problem solving, conflict resolution, decision-making and verbal/written communications skills
  • Ability to lead and prioritize, risk-assess on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet department goals/ critical timelines demonstrating agility to provide technical support with quality work
