Sqewqel Development Corporation (SqDC) is the economic and business development arm of the Seabird Island Band. POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Senior Operations Manager who will be the primary connection between the managers of Sqewqel Development Corporation's (SqDC) businesses and the executive team. This role helps ensure smooth daily operations and supports the CEO and CFO by coordinating activities across SqDC's businesses.
These include Harrison Hot Springs Marina, Harrison Grand Motel, Nations Creations, Stqo:ya Construction, and Sqewqel Gas Bar. We also manage commercial leases for Sqewqel Business Park, off-reserve commercial leases, and agricultural leases.
The Operations Manager will also be involved in corporate-level work such as reviewing partnership agreements, supporting contract negotiations, and helping with strategic planning. A key part of the role is finding ways to grow and diversify SqDC's income to ensure long-term stability and success.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Leadership & Oversight
Act as the link between entity managers and SqDC's CEO and CFO.
Act as the main point of accountability between senior leadership (executive/board) and operational teams.
Provide guidance and support to entity managers.
Encourage good communication and teamwork across all business units.
Make sure performance, compliance, and cultural values are upheld.
Business Operations
Translate the organization's strategic plan into operational objectives for each entity, which include, but are not limited to Harrison Grand Motel, Harrison Hot Springs Marina, Sqewqel Gas Bar, Nations Creations, Sqewqel Business Park and Stqo:ya Construction.
Create consistent systems, policies, and reporting across all entities.
Help managers solve operational challenges and improve processes.
Identify opportunities for growth and cost savings.
Ensure all businesses follow safety, environmental, financial, and regulatory requirements.
Corporate & Strategic Support
Take part in reviewing partnership agreements and supporting contract negotiations.
Provide input on business planning, strategies, and risk management.
Work with the CEO and CFO to align operations with SqDC's overall goals.
Financial & Reporting
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial tracking for each entity.
Pull together reports for the CEO, CFO, and Board of Directors.
Assist the CFO with due diligence on contracts, partnerships, and new investments.
Growth & Diversification
Look for ways to grow revenues, cut costs, and improve efficiencies.
Develop new business opportunities and diversify income sources.
Lead initiatives for business expansions, partnerships, and joint ventures.
Leases & Asset Management
Manage on and off-reserve commercial leases and agricultural leases.
Ensure lease agreements are clear, compliant, and well-managed.
Provide recommendations on renewals, utilization, and redevelopment.
Community & Stakeholder Relations
Represent SqDC at community, government, and industry meetings.
Build strong relationships with suppliers, tenants, contractors, and partners.
Ensure operations reflect SqDC's values of cultural respect, sustainability, and community benefit.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Education
:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Operations, or a related field (MBA an asset).
Other Skills/Qualifications:
Related operational experience in the various business operations managed by SqDC would be an asset
.
At least 5 years of senior leadership experience managing multiple sites or businesses.
Experience with contracts, partnership agreements, and lease management.
Proven success in improving operations, financial growth, and business diversification.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with Indigenous organizations or Indigenous economic development is a strong asset.
