Director - Administrative Services
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services, the role of the Speech-Language Pathologist is to help students with speech, language, and communication challenges to achieve their academic and personal potential. Using a community-based consultative approach, the SLP works to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, oral and written language, social communication, and cognitive-communication disabilities. They work closely with classroom and special education teachers and special education technicians to support students with communication challenges and development. They provide information and support to teachers, schools, and the school board regarding how to develop an environment and curriculum conducive to language development and the educational success of all students





FUNCTION & DUTIES:



Provide itinerant speech and language services to schools in Nunavik, including:


Screenings, Assessments, Intervention (in-person, telepractice, groups);
Meeting/supporting students and their parents/teachers;
Developing intervention plans and recommendations for parents/teachers;
Providing coaching/training teachers & technicians re interventions with specific students;
Providing trainings and workshops regarding oral and written language learning, disability, and intervention approaches;
Developing culturally and linguistically appropriate assessment and intervention materials;
Developing appropriate public education about speech/language development and stimulation;
Collaborating on programs/activities/materials that support languages and literacy;
Participating in department meetings and projects;
Preparing and maintaining documentation according to the standards of the practice and the rules defined by the school board;
Travelling regularly to assigned communities in Nunavik;
Other duties as may be assigned.




QUALIFICATIONS:


Master's degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology;
Member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Quebec.




The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.





REQUIREMENTS:


Fluency in 2 of the 3 languages of the board (Inuktitut, English and French);
Able to travel frequently in Nunavik;
Beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) is considered an asset;
Experience in a northern or remote area or in an intercultural environment is considered as an asset;
Experience with school-aged children is considered an asset.




WORK SCHEDULE:



35 hours per week from Monday to Friday





CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:



In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2112: from $56,086 to $102,894 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
