Clinical guidance/instruction is available from the Senior Speech Language Pathologist.Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle; and Valid BC Driver\'s License.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceCurrent registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHHPBC). Master\'s degree from an accredited school of Speech Pathology and Audiology. Two years previous experience working with children who have multiple disabilities and communication disorders.Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to independently organize and plan treatment programs, set priorities, and to work with parents and other professional disciplines as part of a team.
  • Ability to train and monitor others to deliver SLP programs.
  • Ability to be perceptive to the needs of children and families and able to act accordingly with tact, patience, and optimism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • Ability to interact effectively with children with disabilities, families, fellow employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to use initiative and exercise good professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of group processes and ability to apply facilitation techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Functional use of alternate modes of communication an asset.
Link to Full Additional information for applicantsMaternity leave position for 12 - 18 months with possibility of longer term work. This exciting position shares both assessment and treatment work. The School Age Program SLP works with independent schools in Victoria to provide consultation and ongoing therapy services as determined clinically appropriate by the SLP and with support from the school based team which include OT and PT from our site. A vehicle is required to travel between schools. The Vancouver Island Children\'s Assessment Network is part of a provincially funded assessment network providing assessment to children and youth up to age 19 years. The multidisciplinary team includes SLP, OT, Psychology, Social Work, Pediatrician or Developmental Pediatrician and occasionally psychiatry. The SLP completes language assessment to contribute to a picture of the overall child\'s functional and diagnostic picture. Opportunities for working within ASD clinics is also possible. A monthly outreach visit to our Nanaimo office are shared between program SLPs.Additional ClausesVaccination Notification: To keep our employees, clients and the communities we serve safe, Island Health is enforcing an employee mandatory vaccination policy which is intended to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
