Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.Come and be a part of this success!PurposeReporting to the Head of Commodity Strategy, the specialist will be part of the Strategy & Market Intelligence team (within BHP\'s global Portfolio Strategy and Development function) with a focus on shaping BHP\'s strategy and portfolio and optimising the use of capital to maintain a strong balance sheet, strengthen shareholder relationships and growing competitive advantage. They will also play a key role in developing BHP\'s strategy in Copper & Potash by supporting Commodity Price Protocol (CPP) work, development of Commodity and Asset Strategies and a broad range of other strategic initiatives.About the RoleTo be successful in this role, you will:

  • Understand BHP\'s sources of competitive advantage in order to support the development of differentiated strategic decisions.
  • Scan, monitor and analyse the external market environment for trends shaping the global economy and commodities that could be sources of opportunity or risk to BHP\'s strategic positioning, relative to its peers.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the value chains in BHP\'s target commodities, and the strategic position and developments of competitors.
  • Employ innovation, analytical skills and critical thinking to generate ideas, and identify and develop opportunities to create value.
  • Support development of compelling strategic dialogue with senior leaders to effectively communicate complex ideas and recommendations to drive decisions.
  • Optimise risk and reward based on an understanding of value drivers underpinning all processes, decisions, strategies and plans within BHP.
  • Identify, engage, and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
About You
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, economics, law, engineering or science (or related disciplines).
  • Experience in mining or natural resources value chain, particularly fertilizers, will be highly regarded.
  • Comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity to drive risk and value-based decision making.
  • Strong analytical skills, specifically translating multiple sources of information into insights and recommended courses of action.
  • Experience reviewing and understanding multi-disciplinary reports / documents and communicating key outcomes and takeaways.
  • Effective communications skills with experience preparing for, writing, and presenting to management and business leaders.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Capable of operating both independently and collaboratively in projects involving multiple workstreams and stakeholders
Work LocationThis position will ideally be based in Saskatoon as a first option, or Toronto. Some business travel required from time to time. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required.
