What You'll Do




As a Specialist working in the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) and Reliability Division, you will work collaboratively as part of a highly technical team to support the CNSC's mandate and mission by providing regulatory oversight and expertise in the fields of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) and systems reliability engineering.



Reporting to the Director, and working under the direction of more senior staff, you will:



review technical and regulatory information (i.e. inspections, events, reports, licensee submissions related to PSA and reliability analysis) and begin to assess data, perform calculations and to draft reports as required and with direction Participate in the review of the probabilistic safety assessment submissions (including hazard screening report and PSA submissions) and reliability analysis. reviews technical reports (e.g Quarterly Report on "Safety Performance Indicators, Annual Risk and Reliability Reports) and/or a variety of regulatory documents and update predetermined changes observe and participate in inspections and may lead smaller scale inspections of lower risk observes evaluations, audits and/or assessments and document findings to add to overall report provides support to divisional projects, inspections and initiatives as needed and with direction

Essential Qualifications:



Education:





Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University in Engineering or Science in the following fields: Nuclear, Mechanical, Physics, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, or a related field



Language Requirements:





English essential

Knowledge of:





Candidates should demonstrate foundational knowledge in some or several of the following areas, acquired through academic training or relevant experience. While expertise in all areas is not required, familiarity with multiple domains will be considered an asset:



Statistical methods for reliability and risk analysis Reliability engineering and Probabilistic Safety Assessment fundamentals Nuclear reactors design and operation fundamentals the principles of project management, project definition, justification and planning, resource allocation, development of appropriate control and co-ordination mechanisms, communication, implementation, monitoring and plan adjustment and project evaluation the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, Regulations and supporting guidance documentation and relevant safety codes and standards (CSA, IAEA, ASME) and reliability engineering
