Join the Chief Risk officer team, where we work to support CMHC's goals for financial stability and housing affordability. This role implies to have quantitative skills and knowledge of Canada's financial mortgage sectors to modelling initiatives at CMHC, including model development, model validation and the interpretation of model results with the ultimate purposes of informing decision making, enhancing risk management and building automated systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Use mathematics, statistical tools and computer-aided techniques to develop models and conducts analytics.
  • Compile, sort and organize data in preparation for subsequent analysis. Test and validate hypotheses through the application of a range of advanced mathematical, statistical, scientific and / or computational techniques.
  • Explore machine learning technics to develop next generation of models.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing models and analytical tools.
  • Developing solutions using substantial creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, negotiation and diplomacy.
  • Helping improve model development procedures to reflect industry best practices.
  • Support the team on all matters related to modelling and analytics, risk management and model implementation using advanced data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Work closely with stakeholders (Business lines, operations, IT, Validation, etc.) and provide analytical solutions to meet various needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics or other quantitative field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in modelling/validation or quantitative analytics at a bank, insurance company, asset manager or other types of financial institution.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing and implementing quantitative models for measuring, analyzing and managing financial and insurance risks.
  • Demonstrate experience with actuarial, statistical and econometric models.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with various quantitative software such as SAS, R, Python, VBA, etc.
  • Advanced theoretical and specialized knowledge of a broad range of quantitative models used within a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of mortgage loan insurance and securitization activities.
  • Ability to persuade, influence, and/or negotiate with colleagues, clients and senior management.
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct rigorous analysis using critical thinking and judgement to resolve complex issues and make recommendations.
  • Ability to use machine learning techniques to develop models is considered as an asset.
  • Ability to use GIS is considered as an asset.
  • Professional designation (Actuarial, Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional Risk Manager, Financial Risk Manager, Certificate in Quantitative Finance, etc.) is considered as an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English & French) is considered as an asset.
  • Other competencies: Thinking Analytically/ Communicating Effectively / Applying Business Acumen / Meeting Client / Stakeholder Needs.
