Reporting to the Manager, Talent Transformation, the Specialist, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) is a passionate expert and thought leader who will push the organization to move forward in its commitment to become a culture where everyone feels represented and valued and has equal opportunity to learn, grow and contribute their best. This role will create a plan to measurably raise awareness, facilitate conversations; and review, refine and monitor our programs and practices while also upholding the organization\xe2\x80\x99s Christian identity and values. The role will have the mandate to foster meaningful, lasting change and position World Vision Canada (WVC) as a leading employer in this area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Achieving Change (Planning, Implementation and Change Management)

  • Inspire and manage change as a thought leader and champion of WVC\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to building a workplace culture and environment that is an optimally inclusive experience.
  • Reflect the Christian identity and values of WVC and weave it to the ideals and principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across all planning, implementation and change management components of programs and practices.
  • Engage stakeholders in the process including the DE&I committee, team members and people leaders.
  • Create a comprehensive road map and implementation plan to define key organizational gaps, goals and the process and timing for achieving them.
  • In serving as a subject matter expert, be well-versed and current in matters related to DE&I; and willing and able to share information in an engaging and compelling way. Keep up to date and research new DE&I strategies and ideas, training, and tools.
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate all DE&I initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to leaders on DE&I to ensure consistency in awareness and action plans.
  • Measure the effectiveness of new and existing policies and strategies and adjust the approach as needed.
  • Enhance culture by ensuring a commitment to DE&I is integrated into business processes and programs, including employee hiring, development, training, retention, promotions, compensation, etc.
Communicating and Educating (Training & Facilitation)
  • Identify the learning needs of various stakeholders to increase awareness, effectiveness and impact of team members and people leaders.
  • Create a learning roadmap to support the achievement of DEI objectives.
  • Design and deliver both training sessions and group facilitation sessions on each stage of the journey.
  • Engage external vendors as needed for specific training needs to be fulfilled (for example, Unconscious Bias).
  • Create a strategy and roadmap that shares and reinforces important messages, engages teams, solicits, and responds to feedback.
  • Coordinate all DEI communications to be a meaningful part of the larger internal communication plan for the organization, including engaging leaders and those with lived experience to lend their voice, experience, and advice to the effort.
  • Work with internal communication teams to draft and share messages to various internal and external channels such as our social media, internal and external website, as appropriate to build our employer brand in an authentic way.
Building Accountability (Effectiveness and Measurement)
  • Monitor internal and external trends in the DE&I profession and in organizations in Canada and assess our ability to be a leader in this area.
  • Develop key performance indicators and metrics to measure, track, and analyze the impact and effectiveness of DE&I training, programs, and initiatives.
  • Provide regular reporting to the leadership team and organization. Evaluate and adjust based on results.
Qualifications required:
  • 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: diversity, equity, and inclusion program development and/or training, change management, culture transformation, leadership training, adult education, or related areas.
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field or a combination of education and experience that supports expertise in this area.
  • The most important factor in this role is to have some foundational experience in DE&I work but not necessarily at the corporate level. The ability to adapt and diagnose quickly (an action orientation) while building strong relationships is equally important. Consideration will be given to areas of expertise and background that bring a transferable skill set, understanding the issues, proven ability to create lasting change, and related knowledge.
  • Some knowledge of practices, policies, processes and evaluation tools in diversity and inclusion.
  • Some knowledge of current legislative and regulatory aspects of DE&I (human rights, employment standards).
  • Previous experience as a \xe2\x80\x98front-of-the-room\xe2\x80\x99 trainer and/or facilitator (in any previous role) is preferred although not mandatory.
  • Ability and confidence to influence decisions using sound data to draw valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action.
  • Ability to create space for honest and challenging dialogue on sensitive topics.
  • Excellent communication skills and previous experience writing organization wide communications, policies, or training modules.
  • Model professionalism and integrity including the handling of sensitive and confidential information. An understanding of the rules around privacy of information and a commitment to ensuring it is met 100% of the time.
  • Proactive work style with the desire to own & execute tasks independently. A strong bias toward action and ownership of responsibilities.
  • High emotional intelligence, ability to build trust based on an approach of co-creation and mutual respect.
  • A coaching approach to support individuals to grow in their own learning.
