Based out of our Moose Creek, Ontario site, as the HR & Safety Specialist, you will partner with leaders on-site to build a positive culture and drive our mission and values forward. You will have overall responsibility for the HR and Safety function as it relates to the delivery and execution of all HR and Safety activities in collaboration with the Corporate HR and Safety departments. This is an on-site position that provides flexible work hours which will allow you to meet the needs of our 50 employees as we are a 24-hour operation; ability to work remotely on occasion. This position reports to the Manager, People & Culture in our Sherbrooke, QC location. HR Responsibilities: \xc2\xb7 Actively participates in a cultural transformation to support the organization in its intention to significantly improve employee experience with an integrated approach of all NWR group of companies \xc2\xb7 Build relationships with employees and leaders to build trust and credibility by developing and implementing measures to increase employee morale, engagement and satisfaction, while reducing turnover \xc2\xb7 Supports site management in creating an environment that promotes an effective constructive working relationship including identifying and recommending employee relations practices necessary to build positive relationships \xc2\xb7 Provides direction to management by providing coaching and interpretation to employee relations issues to develop solutions and improved teammate performance \xc2\xb7 Provides guidance to managers to ensure consistency in the interpretation and application of related programs, policies, procedures and collective agreement \xc2\xb7 Completes regular and ad-hoc reporting on HR metrics; analyze data and partners with the business to achieve its objectives by identifying human resources and organizational development issues and by leading the analysis and diagnosis of site(s) needs \xc2\xb7 Represents management and participates actively on various joint committees including the labour management committee to maintain positive ongoing relations between management, employees and the union \xc2\xb7 Influences and ensures compliance to all legislation, collective agreement and; company policies and guidelines \xc2\xb7 Manages all grievance matters and responses including grievance resolution, arbitration/mediation as necessary \xc2\xb7 Implements preventative measures to prevent future grievances \xc2\xb7 Supports Senior Management with collective bargaining activities \xc2\xb7 Responsible for all HR processes such as recruitment and selection, onboarding and integration, performance management, absence management, total compensation, succession planning, employee relations, training and skills development; talent mapping etc. \xc2\xb7 Supports Corporate HR with integration of HRIS and influence site leaders and employees in utilization of system; optimize usage for metrics reporting and other functionalities \xc2\xb7 Participates in the strategic planning process with Corporate HR in the development of best HR practices, policies and programs and will lead site deployment including communication, training and influencing adoption and usage \xc2\xb7 Leads all Employee Opinion Survey activities with support from Corporate HR; in collaboration with management, creates key actions and ensures commitments are followed through to improve employee experience, working conditions and build trust and credibility. \xc2\xb7 Responsible for full-cycle recruitment activities including on and off-boarding; coordinate any co-op and apprenticeship and training programs including following up with government supports

  • Provide regular communication with employees regarding new initiatives, policy changes, and company updates using various communication methods and tools
  • Implement training matrices and plans based on training needs for all teammates in conjunction with department leaders; develop and deliver in-house training as required
  • Lead the implementation of the performance review process including talent mapping and succession planning to support workforce planning activities
  • Support workforce planning activities including staffing forecasts and managing the annual HR and payroll budgets for the site
  • Support job evaluation project to ensure positions are assessed correctly; match all employees to a job description/level and; complete market research to develop and maintain salary bands, and provide compensation recommendations in collaboration with Corporate HR
\xc2\xb7 Collaborate with the Payroll & Benefits Manager as it relates to all payroll and benefit matters \xc2\xb7 Complete and assist with other tasks and projects both site and corporate level Safety Responsibilities:
  • Be a constant advocate of responsible management of all health, safety and environmental issues driving a cultural change towards improved health and safety
  • With support from the Corporate Safety department, lead all site Health, Safety efforts, and program development
  • Identifies workplace hazards through completion of risk assessments and makes recommendations to address and reduce/eliminate risks
  • Advises on the investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents and non-conformances and making recommendations for action
  • Ensure compliance with Early Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) policy and manage/support any lost time incident claims/records
  • Chair/support Joint Health and Safety committee to develop and maintain internal audit system including actions and tracking system
  • Works proactively to develop improvement initiatives that address workplace health and safety concerns including maintaining accurate records
  • Initiate and maintain programs with Corporate, which will ensure compliance with objectives and policy, as well as government rules and regulations pertaining to Occupational Health, Safety
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • Safety Certification an asset
  • CHRP designation preferred or working towards it
  • 5+ years progressive HR and Safety experience
  • 3+ years working in a union environment
  • Previously held a HR/Safety role in manufacturing setting preferred
  • Solid understanding of all facets of HR and Safety management (generalist)
  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset
  • Ability to persuade and influence
