Job Description


We are looking for a Solution Architect for a 12-month contract position in Victoria, British Columbia. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Remote work available with occasional travel to site.

Role Description
Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, the Solution Architect will assist Records Services in establishing the organization\'s digital archives, including by integrating and operationalizing the Digital Archives SaaS Solution within the organization\'s existing IM/IT ecosystem.

Solutions Architecture requires cross-domain, cross-functional, and cross-industry expertise to generate a creative & communicable technical design that aligns a feasible business solution with stakeholder expectations, within the bounds of mandated delivery parameters. Solution Architecture bridges a critical gap among the key domains involved in solution delivery within any enterprise or business, operating at the project-level while keeping a keen eye on the strategic objectives articulated by the organization.

Working as part of an Agile team and with other architects, product development teams, product owners and product managers, the Solution Architect will conduct conceptual analyses of business problems and assist the organization in establishing a digital archive.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously and closely with multiple service units within the project including product owners and Agile development teams, to assist in establishing the direction for systems architecture and the design and implementation approaches for the Digital Archives Project.
  • Supervise members of the technical architecture team assigned to the Digital Archives Project.
  • Advise on information management and information technology standards and practices while assisting the project team with the implementation of privacy impact assessments and security threat risk assessments.
  • Have an advanced knowledge of, and background in, industry best practices and standards in relation to information technology and information management standards, including security.
  • Contribute to, advise on and, where appropriate, lead the development of implementation plans and roadmaps for the Digital Archives Project.
  • Assist in planning, designing, and deploying a technical / software solution for archiving, preserving, and providing access to government records.
  • Provide information technology expertise.
  • Assist project personnel in implementing and operationalizing the Digital Archives Project.
  • Monitor industry trends within information management and digital archiving to ensure that the Digital Archives Project, including the implementation and use of the Digital Archives SaaS Solution, can evolve to incorporate new capabilities, interfaces, and content sources.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
  • Degree in Computer Science, IM/IT, Business Administration, or related discipline OR Certificate in Computer Science, IM/IT, Business Administration, or related discipline.5 years of experience within the past seven (7) years working on major IM/IT projects.
  • Experience working as part of Agile project management team.
  • Experience implementing SaaS solutions for large and medium sized organizations.
  • Experience advising on and managing project critical processes such as privacy and security risk assessments and SaaS integration and authentication processes.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL, records management software, new system software that is adaptable to SaaS solutions.
Desired Skills and Experience
Working knowledge of:
  • International preservation standards such as ISO 14721:2012 Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model.
  • XML based metadata schema i.e. METS and PREMIS and EAD or ISAD(G), or RAD metadata standard;
  • Components of a digital object and their importance to Ingest, preservation, and access of digital packages (SIPs, AIPs, and DIPs).
  • Digital archive processes that support transfer, preservation, and access of digital records.
