Join our Group Benefits Technology Team!

We are looking for a Solution Architect to drive our technical strategy and roadmaps in collaboration with other technical engineers and leaders within the team.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for architectural design, issues, and solutions considerations; apply industry best practices to build scalable and secure solutions that have outstanding technical performance.
  • Responsible for product architectural design, issues, and solutions considerations for value streams.
  • Assists with the design of application architectures.
  • Crafts templates and solution components for software and platform engineers to use.
  • Fixes mis-specified component architectures and course corrects.
  • Has a positive impact on specific organizational entities.
  • Works across small to medium-sized teams with a common purpose of setting guidelines and clarifying outcomes.
How will you create an impact?

You will directly own and be accountable for a set of assets in Manulife\'s Group Benefits IT portfolio. You will design solution architecture and compose product roadmaps to guide the engineering teams in crafting products that are strategically aligned and operationally ready.
  • Deep understanding of business strategy and ability to craft software/platform/infrastructure architecture plans to support business outcomes.
  • Evaluate and build a network of third-party suppliers.
  • Consolidate resources in specific areas of capability building.
  • Attends ongoing training sessions and is certified in multiple domains of expertise.
  • Demonstrates all core skills and good interpersonal skills for the role.
  • Ability to mentor and lead other junior engineers and technologists.
  • Good working and background knowledge of the area of practice.
  • Introduces new developments and innovation into technical subject area within the segment.
  • Use and combine knowledge of the field and leading market trends to formulate the right approach.
  • Fit-for-purpose solutions, tailored to business needs.
  • Links actions to longer-term goals and strategy.
  • Understands the corporate climate & culture.
  • Collaborative approach to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills, and methods.

Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of Cloud providers, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience in data modeling & Microservices architectures.
  • Experience in event/message-driven solution architecture.
  • The ability to drive business requirements and non-functional requirements.
  • Experience in Canary deployments, 0-downtime, 0-data loss, active-active DR.
  • Exposure to and an understanding of Agile scrum methodologies and experience working in an Agile team.
  • Experience using diagramming tools such as Lucidchart and Visio.
  • Understanding of collaboration tools like Slack, Skype, Teams, and JIRA.
  • Engineering background in node.js, React, C#/.NET.
  • Experience in Health Insurance.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $89,950.00 CAD - $167,050.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
