Position Purpose
Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Architecture, the incumbent provides senior solution architecture leadership and enterprise level advice to the organization, across a broad set of portfolios including teaching and learning, library, research support, administration. The Solution Architect is responsible for translating overarching business requirements and designing, defining and implementing solutions to ensure that the University\xe2\x80\x99s business solutions are implemented consistently, based on best practices and enterprise architecture principles, within budget, and maximize the value of the University\xe2\x80\x99s technology investments. Ensures alignment with the Enterprise Architecture principles and priorities, and balances competing priorities and business needs against security and performance requirements.

Collaborates deeply with several business owners, and project teams, acting as visionary to provide the direction and to define the solution roadmap for the use of appropriate and sustainable business solutions.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the design, development and communication of solutions architecture guidelines, standards, patterns and best practices across the University teaching and learning solution portfolio.
  • Provide professional leadership and advice for business solutions as appropriate from strategic decision-making to the project planning level.
  • Develop and drive the review of designs for business solutions through the enterprise architecture review process and actively participate in the Architecture Review Board and the Architecture Working Group.
  • Create and document technical architectures for business solutions to enable streamlined application interfaces, improved application redundancy and efficient distribution of data in support of University objectives.
  • Identify, select and prioritize solutions including major enhancements and changes to current interfaces.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field; or equivalent;
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience with solution architecture strategy and design consulting and supporting large scale systems in a multi-platform environment;
  • Expert knowledge of concepts and philosophies and tools behind the design of applications, information and underlying information technologies;
  • Proven record of applying common solutions patterns, middleware solutions;
  • Demonstrated development experience with enterprise platforms and solutions, preferably within the higher education sector;
  • Demonstrated experience with data integration and integrating software-as-a-service solutions through APIs;
  • Experience working in a diverse work environment, with a broad understanding of multiple business sectors, hardware and software technologies, data- and information-management practices, and cybersecurity;
  • Knowledge of numerous leading vendor solutions platforms, such as M365, Azure, AWS, Oracle, Peoplesoft, Workday, D2L, as well as mainstream open-source frameworks and products;
  • Ability to apply project management methods and processes to define, plan, cost, resource, track and ensure the accomplishment of targeted goals;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments;
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a non-technical manner with strong business acumen and influence skills;
  • Ability to proactively keep abreast of new and emerging trends and technologies in teaching and learning;
  • Bilingualism \xe2\x80\x93 French and English (written and spoken).
