What role you will play in our team

Want to learn how large energy corporations engage and benefit local Indigenous communities? Are you interested in how Benefits Agreements between Indigenous communities and extractive sector corporations are structured? Do you want to know more about Indigenous engagement frameworks? We are seeking a summer student to help the socioeconomic team review, steward and improve our Benefits Agreement management with our Indigenous neighbors in areas we operate.

What you will do

  • Perform structure and obligation analysis on existing benefit agreements
  • Generate training and stewardship documents, outlining themes, obligations and commitments
  • Research benefit agreement structures and create comparative analysis for internal organization
  • Work will help train new leaders in the importance and commitments underpinning existing benefit agreements, and create framework for new agreements
  • Typical week is 40 hours, M-F
  • May include travel to operating areas (Cold Lake, Fort McMurray)
About you

Skills and Qualifications
  • Current student in a University or college program at an accredited institution
  • Valid high school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to work individually, as well as in a team situation, with minimal supervision
  • Skilled at detail-oriented critical analysis
  • Can summarize detailed/complex information in a way easily understandable by non-experts
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
  • Preference for post-secondary students in a business, pre-law or Indigenous Studies related field
  • If you are a candidate who wishes to self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations or M\xc3\xa9tis) for eligibility in our preferential Indigenous recruitment program, you must attach a proof of membership letter from your association/settlement/band office to your application. This information will be used solely for the purpose of confirming your eligibility for the preferential recruitment process. Please do not attach a copy of your membership card. Proof of membership must come from an indigenous community in one of the following operating areas: Ft Mcmurray, Cold lake, Edmonton or Calgary.
