Social Systems Navigator

Full-time, Term until March 31, 2026



It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population



The Social Systems Navigator's primary focus will be to assist clients that request support with planning and addressing areas of concern while providing community support and referrals for patients and their families. This can include housing, finance, transportation, support groups, education, engagement with clients by providing community connections and attending events and other means as may be identified.

TI's Social Systems Navigator has the following primary objectives:

Supporting Inuit clientele and families in Toronto in accessing a wide variety of resources according to their needs Connecting Inuit clientele and families to community services and supports Implementing opportunities for enhanced cultural competencies in collaboration with stakeholders

Key responsibilities of the position include:



Provide referrals for professional bodies for culturally safe training when dealing with Inuit clientele. Providing country food to the Inuit community. Assist clients in navigating employment, education/training systems. Assist clients with external resources such as social support services (legal, financial aid, social assistance, etc.). Assist clients with internal resources such as food security, CFI, etc. Helping clients achieve autonomy, and coordinating and providing safe, timely services to clients Client advocacy, building and maintaining community partnerships and standing in for Regional Manager sitting on appropriate committees (police, MMIWG, special interest groups and more) as required. Work closely and develop positive relationships with staff of project stakeholders. Determine, through intake and plan of care, the needs of clients and families. Coordinate client support, activities, and services. Develop, organize, facilitate and/or provide referrals for cultural services. Provide clients with resources to assist in culturally appropriate services, such as pamphlets, web lists, phone numbers and transportation to events and services (bus tickets). Provide clients with resources and tools developed to collect evaluation of the program and services and identify barriers. Create and provide activities for children, youth, adults, and families which will be appropriate for those dealing with a wide range of issues. Contribute to and support service coordination with all partners and stakeholders. Ensure the program meets the mental, physical, emotional, and cultural needs of clients to receive successful treatment and follow-up care. Participate in the development of services, events, and planning of Tungasuvvingat Inuit-specific activities and overall work. Submit regular data, reports and evaluations to the supervisor as required Abide by TI policies and procedures. Other duties may be required and related to the position

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices. Knowledge of social service organizations and services in the GTA and general issues faced by Inuit. Knowledge of services, supports, and mapping of community resources. Strong Inuit cultural knowledge. Ability to complete intake, plan of care and evaluation forms with clients. Facilitation, interpersonal and communication skills. Caring, supportive, motivated, and able to work independently. Sensitivity to people dealing with illness and stressful situations.



Community College in Social services worker or similar is preferred. Completion of pos-secondary education in human services or related discipline is required.



Three years' experience in relevant community support experience is required. Two years' experience working with children, youth and families and working with non-Inuit organizations and services professionals is preferred.



Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Ability to speak in Inuktitut, a valid drivers license and availability to work evenings as required is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range from $57,000 to $60,000 annually TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan. Vacation (earn 3 weeks/year).
