Summary

The Skilled Labourer will be required to perform tasks involving physical labor and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities will include safely operating machinery and equipment, and adhering to the company's safe work practices and procedures. Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (6" steel toed boots, eye and hearing protection, hardhat) will be required.

Job Duties

Clean and prepare work area to eliminate possible hazards. Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. Operating overhead cranes with or without load attached Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment. Lubricate, clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and tools. Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, ramps, and other temporary structures. Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.

Requirements

2+ years of experience as a labourer, specifically in the steel industry, considered an asset Overhead crane experience required Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures preferred Effective verbal and listening communications skills Respect diversity - treat others with respect. Experience in grinding and working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools preferred but not required Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical labour.

Work Conditions

Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs is required. Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hard-hat, safety boots, etc.) Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects. Requires good manual dexterity . Noise level is generally loud. Good stamina is required. Hazards associated with the manufacturing setting.
