We have built more than 120 homes in Perth and surrounding area since 1981, including recreational and country homes, in both contemporary and traditional styles, ranging in size from 1,100 to 7,000 sq. ft.

The Opportunity

We have immediate opportunities for a full-time (permanent) Site Supervisor / Carpentry Foreman. The ideal candidate will have experience in residential construction and at least five (5) years of carpentry experience.

In order to be considered for this position you must have a valid Ontario driver's license and a clean abstract.

Overview:

The Site Supervisor / Carpenter Foreman at K. James Construction is a construction professional who collaborates with other tradespeople to create, alter, and repair wood structures for various building projects, including but not limited to the high-quality custom homes that the company is known for.

In this role, you typically represent the company as the general contractor and are responsible for ensuring that teammates and sub-trades know who to see if they have questions while on-site, and that personnel are following safety guidelines. You have a deep understanding of construction activities, and you will interact with teammates and sub-trades on job sites throughout the region. Your position is crucial to ensuring that we complete projects to the highest standard of quality.

Responsibilities include:

Taking direction and working effectively as a collaborative team member. Following workplace safety requirements. Ensuring visitors and sub-trades to the site are aware of site safety requirements, and that KJC personnel are following safety requirements. Installing form work, including ICF. Placing and finishing concrete. Framing, including walls, floors and roofs. Interior and exterior finishes including sidings, soffits, interior and exterior trim. Installation of windows and doors, air barriers, insulation and rainscreen.

Qualifications:

At least five (5) years of prior carpentry experience. Valid Ontario driver's license and a clean driver's abstract. Reliable access to a vehicle. Knowledge of custom home building techniques. Strong work ethic and positive attitude. Willingness to learn. Supervision, project management and time management skills. Ability to use hand and power tools. Strong attention to detail and quality. Strong English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing). Strong collaboration, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently or in small teams. Physical ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, reach, climb (ladder). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Working at Heights certification an asset.

Working Conditions:

Monday to Friday, full-time hours (M - Th: 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, F: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm) Additional hours occasionally required to meet deadlines. Travel between office site and job sites daily. This position works outdoors in all elements/seasons, as well as indoors in dwellings that are under construction and may still be exposed to the elements. Long periods of standing and walking. Frequent periods of climbing and/or crouching. Regular customer interactions, occasionally with people who are upset or frustrated. Regular requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
