We are looking for a Site Superintendent who can support the day-to-day operations of the Forty Mile Wind site, including managing safety, budget, contractor management, and plant performance. In this position, you also get to drive continuous improvement through collaboration with other departments and management. Having a customer service approach and setting priorities and allocating necessary resources on a day-to-day and long-term basis are essential functions to satisfying the primary requirements of this position. This role reports to Operations Manager and will be site-based out of Medicine Hat, AB. What Else You Get To Do:

  • Coordinate, plan and supervise plant field activities of contractors, support ARS and other compliance-related matters
  • Supervise and support corrective and scheduled maintenance on the wind turbines
  • Perform field investigations to resolve safety, operational and technical problems
  • Optimize plant performance through data collection, observations and proactively addressing maintenance needs
  • Organize and maintain site spare parts inventory, including purchasing and repairing arrangements for used parts
  • Act as the company\'s representative for all local stakeholder interactions
  • Manage contractor staff and all capital projects associated with the plant
  • Support and leverage external expertise, such as CanREA, whenever possible
  • Support joint ventures and other sites as and when necessary (travel may be required)
  • Running a 200MW - 45 turbine facility
  • Support operations of solar facilities in the area (39MW Empress Solar and Future 200MW Forty Mile Solar)
  • Management of up to $1M of controllable budget
  • Plan and coordinate the annual plant maintenance schedule
  • Create and administer the annual operations\' budget and complete monthly reports for all company and regulatory requirements
  • Required to work overtime, varying time schedules and be on call 24/7
  • Occasional travel required to other ATCO renewable sites
  • Must be able to physically access turbine equipment at heights of up to 120 meters in varying weather conditions
  • Must be able to physically handle up to 50 pounds manually and be in various positions (stand, stoop and kneel) for prolonged periods of time
  • Must meet safety equipment weight limitations in order to perform all the requirements of this position safely as this is a safety-sensitive role
Who You Are:
  • Five years\' experience working with wind turbines; knowledge of SGRE turbines and solar facility experience is a plus
  • Asset management experience is preferred, specifically in the operations and maintenance area of renewable energy.
  • Experience working with confined space entry and lockout-tagout procedures
  • Bachelor or technical degree / diploma in electrical field (journeyman red seal electrician is preferred)
  • Have a knowledge of AESO rules and compliance
  • Hydraulic or mechanical experience is a plus
  • Current fall arrest and high angle rescue certifications
  • Possess a valid driver\'s license and a clean driving record
  • Knowledge of wind turbine components and operations (hardware, software, power controls, and generators)
  • High voltage electrical knowledge, including substation and switching
  • Familiarity with spare parts or inventory processes as well as Maximo or similar work processes is an asset
  • Self-driven, accountable and demonstrates ownership working with minimal supervision
  • Strong collaborative skills working with both internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
