About Ocean Steel and Construction Limited

Incorporated in 1955, Ocean Steel has grown to become one of the largest steel fabricators in Eastern Canada and one of the most respected steel suppliers on the Eastern Seaboard. It services several markets, including all of Canada and the Eastern United States. Ocean designs, fabricates and erects structural steel for buildings and bridges. It also manufactures and installs platework, such as breechings, stacks, ducts, penstocks, process & storage tanks and custom process-equipment. Ocean Steel has two, modern New Brunswick-based plants in Saint John and in Fredericton. We currently have sales offices in Saint John, New Brunswick, Brampton, Ontario and Burlington, Massachusetts.

Job Summary

The duties of this job require a high degree of specialized expertise and skill in maintaining established standards of quality and accuracy. The Shop Foreman must exhibit drive, determination, and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results. While the pace of the work is faster than average, quality is never compromised. To be successful as the Shop Foreman you must have excellent leadership skills and experience delegating tasks to ensure that deadlines are met, and safety standards are adhered to.

Responsibilities

• Supervision of employees in a unionized environment including machine operators, fitters and welders
• Ensure all products are fabricated in an efficient and safe manner while maintaining a high level of quality standards
• Exercise the necessary authority to assure policies and procedures are followed
• Coaching and training support for achieving effective delegation
• Shift work is inherent of this position
• Observe schedules and blueprints
• Ensure all orders are filled completely
• Solve various issues within the shop

Technical Requirements

• Experienced tradesperson or engineering technology graduate with experience in fabrication
• Previous supervisor training/experience would be considered an asset
• Welding/Steel Fabrication Trade Certification
• CWB Weld Supervisor Certification is considered a definite asset
• Class 5 Drivers license

Business Requirements

• Must be proficient with MS software programs
• WHMIS and Dangerous goods certification
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills

Cultural Requirements

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate others
