Job Opportunity
We have a great opportunity for a Shipping Manager who is a self-starter with strong analytical skills and a bias for action to implement great ideas. In this role you will need to be a collaborator with the ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders. You are a change agent with organizational savvy capable of securing the resources to push your projects ahead. You will be responsible to ensure efficient operation of the shipping department by partnering with scheduling, operations, and freight providers to ensure the on-time delivery of product to customers.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with 3rd party freight provider to schedule runs in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible. Utilize knowledge of logistics / distribution costs to drive continuous improvement
  • Monitor (logistics / distribution costs) and be able to explain deviations from budgets or prior years
  • Utilize technology to drive efficiencies and low-cost operations
  • Monitor and direct distribution assets (i.e., trailers) to ensure optimal utilization and allocations
  • Work with operations to maximize cube, weight and efficiencies
  • Supervise employees in the daily routine of loading trucks neatly and to the customer's complete satisfaction.
  • Attend daily Scheduling Meeting and assist the Plant Scheduler in meeting our customers' requirements.
  • Prepare work orders for and coordinate repairs of trucks, trailers, forklifts, dock plates, and dock doors.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service the delivery of the customer orders on time.
  • Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
  • Adhere to daily production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals.
  • Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
  • Establish high morale within department by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop strong rapport with various freight lines.
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.
Education/Training/Experience :
  • Post-secondary degree in the field, including programs in transportation systems, finance and business operations
  • 5 to 10 years' experience in transportation, operations and logistics in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Proficient with analytical and reporting tools with the ability to present information in a digestible manner
