to join our production team. This role requires a skilled craftsman capable of setting up and operating a wide variety of CNC and manual fabrication equipment. Beyond technical execution, the successful candidate will play a leadership role by scheduling production, training junior staff, and ensuring the highest standards of quality are met from the initial CAD pattern to the final assembly.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation & Fabrication
Setup and Operation:
Expertly set up and operate fabrication equipment including CNC Brake Presses, NC Punch Presses, Fibre Lasers, Drill Presses, Mill Centres, Timesavers, and Grinders.
Forming & Bending:
Perform complex forming operations by selecting appropriate machines and dies. Sequence bending operations efficiently using conventional and CNC brakes, as well as manual and power forming rolls/tube benders.
Metal Removal:
Operate conventional and CNC metal removal equipment, ensuring minimum waste while strictly adhering to engineering specifications.
2. Welding & Assembly
Joinery:
Select appropriate welding types and operate Spot Welders, MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and Arc welding equipment.
Finishing:
Operate oxy-acetylene brazing and soldering equipment as required.
Assembly:
Install hardware, assemble components, and finish edges/surfaces to prepare the final product for shipping or painting.
3. Programming, Layout & Design
Drawing Interpretation:
Plan and prepare metal fabrication by reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
Calculations:
Perform metal fabrication calculations to determine cut sizes and layout patterns.
CAD/CAM:
Develop patterns for sheet metal using Computer Assisted Design and Drafting (CAD) software packages.
Programming:
Write, edit, and verify CNC programs for punching and forming equipment to ensure precision.
4. Production Management & Leadership
Scheduling:
Organize and schedule production workflows to meet delivery deadlines.
Training:
Act as a mentor; train and manage employees on machine usage, safety protocols, and fabrication techniques.
Digital Reporting:
Utilize computer skills for basic data input and use barcode scanners to track job progress and inventory.
5. Quality Assurance
Verification:
Verify the quality of parts and products by checking and recording dimensions against drawings.
Testing:
Test welds for strength and integrity; record quality assurance data as required by company standards.
Maintenance:
Maintain hand and bench tools and ensure the workplace material is protected and organized.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:
Minimum of
5 years
of hands-on sheet metal experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficient in reading blueprints/drawings and calculating bend deductions and cut sizes.
Computer Literacy:
Comfortable with basic data entry, barcode scanning systems, and CAD software.
