BGC Dovercourt is a not-for-profit organization that provides after school, summer, and March break programs for over 1,000 children and youth at two locations in Toronto's west end. The mission of the Club is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.

Start Date: Immediately

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Reports to: Character Development Lead

Location: Dovercourt Clubhouse, 180 Westmoreland Ave

Hours: Part-time, 1 day a week for 2 hours, for approximately 5-8 weeks

Key Responsibilities:

? Independently design and implement creative hand sewing and machine sewing lesson plans for children and youth

? Facilitate fun, educational, and positive learning experiences for participants ages 4-14, in groups up to 15-30 with supporting staff

? Prepare materials and ensure all activities maintain a safe and supportive environment

? Offer guidance, supervision, and encouragement to participants as they develop new sewing skills

? Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere that welcomes all children and supports skill-building

? Maintain inventory of required sewing materials and report needs as necessary

? Assess participant progress and adapt lessons to suit class needs

? Assist in evaluating the program and provide recommendations for improvement

Knowledge and Skills:

? Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills, ability to establish rapport with members, staff

and volunteers

? Excellent oral and written communication skills

? A capacity to work within a team and initiative to work independently when required

? Well-developed problem solving skills

? Ability to exercise initiative, flexibility and sound judgement when handling unpredictable situations

Qualifications:

? Skilled in both hand sewing and using a sewing machine

? Responsible for independently designing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans

? Previous experience working with children or in a teaching/mentoring environment is highly preferred

? Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

? Excellent communication and time management skills

? Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check (mandatory)

? Current CPR-C certification (mandatory)

? Creative, enthusiastic, and dependable
