Position Summary:
As a member of the Newcomer Settlement Orientation and Community Connections Program, the Settlement Worker will be involved in providing social, cultural, and economic integration support to all programs users of Newcomer Women's Services Toronto (NEW). The Settlement Worker will provide newcomers with knowledge of life in Canada that is essential to full settlement and integration, including becoming a Canadian citizen. The Settlement Worker will assist in carrying out the administrative operations for the Settlement and orientation program in accordance with the standards set out by the organization and its funder IRCC.
This position will appeal to a team player who is skilled in customer service and multi-tasking in a fast-paced community-based social service agency with an emphasis on goal achievement and delivering customer-centric service.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct eligibility assessments for clients as the main first start point through the intake and assessment process to identify immediate, short, medium and long-term settlement needs of the newcomers.
Provide comprehensive one-on-one case management and counselling to eligible clients requesting information concerning: advocacy, translation & interpretation and civic participation and community engagement, orientation, referral (internally and to appropriate programs/services within the community) and non-therapeutic counselling regarding services such as health care, housing, employment, training and education, legal aid, finance, social services, etc.
Provide information about immigration application guidelines and transcribe client information into forms as necessary
Provide initial crisis intervention/mental health support when required with appropriate referrals
Ensure clients satisfaction and that all clients and the community feedback and concerns are addressed in a timely manner and recorded according to NEW's policies and procedures
Develop or combine a monthly fact sheet research on the new immigration updates , programs and be able to update the resource list based on that.
Develop yearly, quarterly and monthly work plan and activities
Plan, organize and facilitate group workshops and orientation sessions that support clients in understanding and integrating into Canadian society, practices and procedures; advice on way of life, institutions, laws, rights, responsibilities, civic participation, etc.
Plan, prepare and evaluate appropriate material for group facilitation & workshops in collaboration with other teams and programs within the agency.
Collect statistics; submit weekly and monthly reports and input client data into iCARE and other internal databases, including but not limited to, OCMS and Excel.
Ensure that all records are kept confidential and secure.
Develop individualized outreach plans for each assigned service locations in collaboration with other NEW's programs or external service providers
Conduct program promotion in community social landmarks Actively participates in program's community development activities including advocacy, outreach and community engagement and empowerment activities
Network with other staff, attends staff meetings & agency events including staff social events, community events and agency committees
Assist in creating an annual Programs/ webinars/workshops calendar and promote our program offerings to newcomer women
Prepare, administer and complete file intake and registration forms for our programs and clients
Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to ensure seamless delivery of services to our members
Cover the front desk and perform Other duties assigned.
Newcomer Settlement and Orientation Services
Perform client service registration, data input into OCMS and ICARE regarding registration particulars
Collect data on national, regional or local level settlement information. This includes the provision of information and awareness raising on topics such as housing, employment, healthcare, well-being, Canada's legal system, banking and financial management, and how to become a Canadian citizen, including the rights and responsibilities of citizenship
Develop settlement and Orientation plans for newcomer clients
Maintain service records and track program statistics as per funder's reporting requirements
Meet monthly service targets as determined by the funder
Administer intake forms for clients who sign up for our programs and for walk-in clients
Proactively outreach to new and existing community partners
Research, order and organize immigrant services related information and update resource centre material
Select topics, develop information fact sheets, and ensure that information is relevant, accurate, up-to-date, and accessible
Maintain intake database and track program statistics
Support different teams with administrative services including general office administrative supports and database maintenance
Assist in coordinating job fairs, guest speaker sessions and special events
Remain up to date on all modifications of the funder and organizational standards, policies, and procedures
Support the Manager of Settlement Program with administrative services including general office administrative supports and maintenance of databases
Team Contributions and Expectations:

Participate in training of new staff, practicum students and volunteers as required
Attend workshops and training as recommended by NEW
Take an active role in the upkeep of staff areas and offices
Participate on committees as needed
Skills and Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Community development, humanities, Social Services or Counseling or 2 years equivalent work experience
Second language required - Ukrainian, Dari or Farsi Speaking
Knowledge of the newcomer settlement sector with a good understanding of challenges faced by prospective immigrants, newcomers to Canada, women, and youth
Able to provide services and support to ensure the administrative functions of the office are running smoothly with ability to manage the front desk reception
Effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent word processing and computer skills, specifically in MS Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook)
