Established in 1993, Y Newcomer Connections is a leading immigrant settlement centre focused on creating connections that will transform our community into a lasting, healthy home for immigrants from around the world and from all walks of life.The OpportunityAs the Settlement Trainer Team Lead, you guide a team dedicated to supporting newcomers through orientation sessions and workshops. You provide essential support during and beyond the initial RAP period, working closely with your team and community partners to foster integration. In collaboration with all service teams, you address knowledge gaps for newcomers, helping them navigate Canadian cultural norms, amenities, and their rights and responsibilities. You actively participate in community committees to enhance collaboration and continually improve the newcomer experience, all under the guidance of the Employment Supervisor.Responsibilities

  • Lead Settlement Trainers in developing and delivering engaging, culturally sensitive orientation workshops on Canadian life, including laws, budgeting, and networking, while staying current with trends and best practices.
  • Facilitate workshops using diverse methods like simulations and case studies, including seasonal sessions on topics like youth employment and waste management.
  • Coordinate interpretation services to ensure language barriers are addressed, allowing full engagement in workshops.
  • Provide guidance to newcomers during and post-RAP on Canadian norms, amenities, and local resources, offering continued support.
  • Identify and address knowledge gaps and integration barriers by collaborating with service teams and using evaluation feedback to enhance workshops.
  • Work with internal and external partners, such as government agencies and community organizations, to improve service delivery and participate in community initiatives.
  • Promote workshops through social media and community events, updating materials to reflect any policy changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of sessions and client data in the CRM, reporting all client-related activities as required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A College or Bachelor\'s Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in a cross-cultural environment;
  • Experience developing and delivering training events;
  • Ability to complete full training cycle (plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate);
  • Exceptional ability to communicate with ESL clients;
  • Experience of using a Smartboard or a willingness to undergo training;
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on new challenges;
  • Confident presentation skills;
  • Approachable and possessing a strong client-centric attitude;
  • Heightened sensitivity to the needs of our newcomer clients;
  • Ability and willingness to maintain flexible work hours;
  • In-depth knowledge of and advanced user status of MS Office products; Learning Management systems, etc.
  • Exceptional oral, and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • TESL Certification is an asset;
  • Experience with Youth is an asset;
  • Must be fluent in the English language; ability to speak French and/or Arabic is an asset.
