REAL ESTATE STUDIES

The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Sessional Instructor to teach Fall 2023 combined sections of REAL 437 LEC 01/ REAL 637 LEC 01.

REAL 437 LEC 01/ REAL 637 LEC 01 (Land Development and Planning)

• Tuesday 18:30-21:15

Classes in the Fall 2023 semester run from September 5, 2023 to December 6, 2023.

Registrar Scheduled Exams will take place between Saturday, December 9, 2023 to Wednesday, December 20, 2023, if applicable.

Course Description

\xe2\x80\x9cIntroduction to the urban planning process and what is required to gain government approvals for land development proposals, from small-scale redevelopment projects to large-scale complete new communities. Topics will include: an overview of planning legislation; municipal processes and timelines; the risks and costs associated with planning approvals; stakeholder engagement; developing political acumen; and new trends in managing growth and achieving sustainability goals.\xe2\x80\x9d

Qualifications

• MBA degree or equivalent and work experience in the field are desirable
• Previous post-secondary teaching experience is a requirement
• Preference will be given to applicants who have experience providing instruction face-to-face and online in a post-secondary setting
• Experience in programs such as Zoom, D2L and other digital education products would be an asset
