The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for Sessional Instructors for the Winter 2024 Semester. We are seeking instructors to teach the following courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
SOC 2420 - Social Problems (In-person)
This course is a sociological approach to the nature and definition of social problems, their theoretical explanations, and their interventions. Topics are selected from: alcoholism and drug addiction, the criminal justice system, poverty, racism, sexism, familial instability, aging, mental disorders, alienation, political and religious dissent and overpopulation. Three hours a week.
SOC 3090 - Political Sociology (Online)
This course deals with theories and empirical research on the state, social and political movements, political behaviour and voting, organization of political parties, democracy, civil society, political conflict, nationalism, transnationalization, and globalization. Three hours a week.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
