FSC302H5S-Advanced Forensic Identification

The following Sessional Instructional Assistant position in the Forensic Science Program, Department of Anthropology at UTM is open for applications for the 2022-23 Fall/Winter academic session.

RATE OF PAY: Effective September 1, 2020 the minimum hourly rate shall be: $46.92

COURSE: FSC302H5S - Advanced Forensic Identification

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Continuing from FSC300H5, this course focuses on advanced crime scene examination and the use of evidence detection techniques. Topics include: advanced fingerprint development techniques, footwear collection and identification, analysis report writing, bloodstain pattern interpretation and crime scene plan drawing. Additional topics discuss biometrics, examiner bias, the expert witness, crime scene examination protocols and courtroom testimony. [24L, 24P]

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

SIZE OFAPPOINTMENT: 70 hours (total number of assigned hours for all positions is dependent on course enrolment).

APPOINTMENT DATES: January 1, 2023 - April 30, 2023 (UTM Classes begin January 9, 2023)

LECTURES: Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (in-person)

PRACTICALS: Fridays 9:00-11:00 AM, 12:00-2:00 PM
& 3:00-5:00 PM (3 sections total - in-person)

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have a BSc degree (completed) in Forensic Science (or related field). Previous TA experience in a "Forensic Science" course is highly preferred. Successful applicants will have substantial science course background at the graduate level and background in Forensic Science; knowledge and familiarity of areas within the various Forensic Sciences fields/forensic ident/policing; scientific research and project management is required. The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person. However, if this changes for any reason, you will be provided with as much advance notice as practicable.

DUTIES

Assignment and test preparation; Invigilate all tests/exams; Respond to student enquiries/office hours; Attend Practical section as assigned; Attend lectures and generate possible test questions, Supervise and co-ordinate the TAs (Markers) marking meetings/grading; Prepare and deliver training to course TA's. Mark assignments/tests/exams; invigilate all tests/exams; attend TA marking meetings.
