CCT206H5S Law, Technology and Culture
This course will provide a detailed review of copyright, trademark and patent law with a special emphasis on how they apply to digital media. This course will also review the law of contract as it applies to digital industries and investigate the relevant tort law. In addition, other regulatory issues will be discussed such as telecommunications and broadcasting law both from a Canadian and an international perspective.

Qualifications:

  • Overall academic performance of B+ (3.3 GPA) or above.
  • Must have a minimum grade of an A (4.0 GPA) or above in a Business Law course, or equivalent course
  • Preferably completed a course on Technology Law (or equivalent courses) with a minimum grade of A (4.0 GPA)
  • Research assistant or teaching assistant experience preferred
  • Writing sample of research
  • BCom/HBA-equivalent undergraduate degree
  • Previous evaluation of performance as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel and PowerPoint
Preference: J.D. and graduate applicants from a law school or business school will be considered based upon their transcripts and course experience.

Duties:
Student and course instructor contacts managing tutorial/practical sections, grading, invigilating tests/exams, and clerical duties. The mode of instruction for the course is in-person.

The rate of pay for a sessional instructional assistant (SIA) is $46.92 per hour, plus vacation pay in accordance with the CUPE 3902, Unit 3 Collective Agreement. The Director of the Communication, Culture Information and Technology shall make any and all offers of employment on behalf of the Department at UTM.
