The following Emergency Sessional Instructional Assistant position in the Forensic Science Program, Department of Anthropology at UTM is open for applications for the Winter 2023 session:

COURSE: FSC481Y5Y Internship in Forensic Science

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
As the capstone experience for the Forensic Science Specialist Programs, this course provides students with professional practice and research experience. Students are required to attend classes that address proper research design and methodology, as well as issues of professional practice in the forensic sciences including: ethics; research protocols; written and verbal communication skills; professional communication (interviews, letters, emails, reports, presentations, and publications); and expert witness testimony. Students will also be placed with a participating forensic agency to conduct research and gain an understanding of the unit\'s daily operations. In addition to practice presentations, critiques, an ethics approval application, a 10-15 page research proposal, and a mock interview, students are required to formally present the results of their research at the annual Forensic Science Day symposium and submit a publication quality manuscript of their work. Note: Internship Placements are arranged by the FSC Program. Students MUST apply for this course and the Course Application is due in the February preceding the placement. Students must have one free day (Monday - Friday) to work at their internship placement site and must be in the final year before graduation. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to placement work site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Masters degree (completed) in one of the forensic sub discipline fields [ANT, BIO, CHM, PSY] (completed or in progress) with substantial science course background at the graduate level and a background in Forensic Science is required. Research experience is required, including knowledge of UTM ethics review protocols and writing research proposals; excellent communication skills; available to students via email within 24 hours (excluding weekends) for duration of TAship; must be able to attend classes; an ability to communicate information clearly; interest, enthusiasm, and experience in scientific research; rapport with undergraduates; knowledge of techniques used in scientific research and project management. For the 4 positions, successful candidates will have specialized knowledge and expereince in Forensic Anthropology, Forensic Biology, Forensic Identification or Forensic Psychology.

DUTIES

Grading of final reports for 5-10 students, anticipated to be 30 minutes of grading per each report. Reports are due March 27, and ideal timing would be 1 week to grade.
