RESPONSIBILITIES
Thompson Rivers University is seeking one or two sessional faculty members who will teach one or two sections of EDSO3200: Social Studies Methods.
Section 1: Tuesdays, 12:30 - 3:20 p.m.
Section 2: Thursdays, 12:30 - 3:20 p.m.
Calendar Description
This course presents an overview of various philosophies, perspectives, approaches, disciplines, and contemporary issues related to the teaching and learning of Social Studies from the BC curriculum. Teacher candidates explore and reflect on Social Studies frameworks related to social responsibility, civic engagement, sustainable practices, ethical judgement, and bias. Teacher candidates develop a repertoire of ecological, ethically, and socially responsible strategies in connection to place and land-based education while incorporating appropriate Indigenous views as well as anti-racist and anti-oppressive teaching and learning principles.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor of Education is required
A Master of Education is required
Recent experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years full time classroom experience is required
Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required
Proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect are required
Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
