RESPONSIBILITIES
Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach one or two sections of EDEF 4200 School Organization.
Section 1: Tuesdays 8:30 - 11:35 a.m.
Section 2: Mondays 8:30 - 11:35 a.m.
Calendar Description
Teacher candidates examine a number of organizations that affect their working lives as teachers and develop a perspective about issues in British Columbia education that results in the expression of their own personal philosophy of teaching. Class sessions consist of presentations and lectures followed by a discussion or question and response period. Presentations are made by representatives from a number of stakeholder groups, including the Kamloops Thompson Teachers' Association, School District #73 (Kamloops/Thompson) senior administration, and the Teacher Regulation Branch for the British Columbia Ministry of Education. Teacher candidates are guided in the preparation of resumes and interview techniques.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor of Education is required
A Master of Education is required
Recent experience as a K-12 teacher strongly preferred and three years full-time classroom experience is required
Advanced knowledge of the subject area is required
Experience and excellent understanding of child development and how this relates to elementary or secondary schools is required
Previous successful post-secondary school teaching experience is preferred
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required
Proven skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect are required
Demonstrated experience in integrating Aboriginal knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required
Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required
