Job Information and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Manager, Experiential Learning, the Service Learning Placement Coordinator will:
  • Engage and assist faculty members in developing, implementing, and planning logistical related activities to support course-based Service Learning (SL) placements.
  • Liaise with community partners to connect to faculty members engaging in SL within their course(s).
  • Identify and connect community identified needs/priorities with potential faculty/courses and learning outcomes.
  • Oversee on-going integration and coordination with Career 360 Platform for coordination of SL activities.
  • Coordinate a centralized and organized process for ensuring students are prepared to be successful in their SL experiences.
  • Determine any required preparatory measures for students engaging with their community partner organization and facilitates a process to complete them.
  • Plan and facilitate preparation sessions at the beginning of the term that communicate important SL information, reinforce Saint Mary\'s University policies and procedures for off-campus activities, and orient students to their Community Partner.
  • Oversee the verification of SL student hours and/or project deliverables in collaboration with Community Partners.
  • Collect, analyze and develop summative reports on evaluative feedback from students, Community Partners, and faculty and uses the information to inform program development and improvement.
  • Manage SL Program Assistant and student staff within the SL Office.
  • Prioritize and assign administrative tasks, work projects, timelines, and other duties that advance the development, implementation, and assessment of SL experiences.
  • Research and collaborate to implement new software and approaches to facilitating the SL program.
Experience and Education Requirements To be the successful Service Learning Placement Coordinator you will have:
  • Completion of a Masters degree.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of directly related experience.
  • Experience working in post-secondary settings, preferably in service learning or other experiential learning related activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to function independently and as part of team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple, competing tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment and evaluation of programs.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Initiative and independent thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends on a semi-regular basis, as required.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment an asset.
  • Website maintenance and social media experience an asset.
