The Total Fund Management Department:

In Total Fund Management ("TFM"), we are building the capabilities to enable a consistent framework for the long-term management of the firm\'s investment strategy. TFM consists of five groups: Active Investment Management, Exposure, Leverage, and Liquidity Management, Trading, Portfolio Design and Construction, Research, Enhancements, Trading, and Models, and Strategy and Operations.

The trading team is responsible for centralized trading to manage execution risk across all public assets (excluding credit) and markets on behalf of all investment departments. Trading is organized into three teams: Equities, Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities and Analytics

We are currently recruiting a Trading intern in the TFM department, for a four-month internship from January to April 2024. Candidates in an undergraduate/graduate co-op program or non-co-op program who will be graduating in August 2024 or later are eligible to apply.

Trading Description

The work done will vary by role/team, but will broadly include:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Working with the Trading team to deliver global work class execution using trading algorithms and bespoke transactions across many assets including Equities, Fixed Income, Currencies, Derivatives and Commodities.
  • Assisting the Derivatives Trading team in the implementation of the fund\xe2\x80\x99s leverage goals via secured borrowings (Swaps and Repo) and unsecured borrowing (Debt Issuance and Commercial Paper).
  • Projects analyzing and making recommendations on topic such as portfolio management, trade execution, market structure and trade opportunities across a global portfolio.
  • Developing proprietary analytical tools and algorithms.
  • Opportunity to learn about markets and risk via day-to-day activities on the desk and through analysis of P&L and risk.
Qualifications

Position Requirements:
  • The ideal candidate will be graduating from an undergraduate/graduate program in August 2024 (or later) and is working towards a degree in a STEM or business field.
  • The team works in a dynamic interactive environment which requires the candidate to have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in finance/investment management.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Experience with programming, in particular Python and/or R.
  • Knowledge using databases (MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle).
  • Candidates must exemplify CPP Investments\xe2\x80\x99 guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership.
