Join our Water Strategy team as they work to ensure the health of the local watershed, guided by the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan!Reporting to the Manager, Water Integrated Planning, the Senior Supervisor, Watershed Planning is responsible for overseeing the technical direction and integration of information from a range of scientific and engineering subject areas to develop management plans at a tributary watershed scale considering water quality, water quantity, and fish habitat.To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding strategy development and communication skills. This is vital as you will be leading a small team of technical and planning experts as well as working with regulators and Indigenous groups towards building local scale watershed plans. We require an individual who has outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, who can provide technical and strategic direction.This is an exciting chance to work collaboratively with different departments and specialists dedicated to sustainable mining in the Elk Valley surrounding our five open-pit metallurgical coal mines, with a particular focus on mine planning and mine water management activities to support the overall health of regional aquatic ecosystems.The preferred location for this position is in the Elk Valley, but there is an opportunity to be located out of our Calgary or Vancouver offices, with regular travel to the Elk Valley. Working a compressed work week with alternating Fridays off, come experience what work life balance is all about!Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Maintain and advocate for the local scale planning overarching strategy and objectives
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability to develop management plans at a tributary watershed scale to address water quantity, water quality, and fish habitat
  • Collaborate with regulators and Indigenous groups
  • Collaborate and provide clear communications with internal key stakeholders and senior management
  • Obtain feedback on objectives and plans; integrate feedback into plans and individual projects
  • Oversee all plans, schedules, manage risks, and leverage opportunities
  • Advise on study designs, reports, and engagement materials
  • Direct, coach, and mentor a team of 1-2 professionals
  • Manage consultants to develop plans including scope, budget, and timeline
  • Incorporate adaptive management framework to reduce uncertainty, adapt, learn, and adjust
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Professional designation in a related field (P. Eng, P. Geo, P. Bio) or eligible for designation required
  • Minimum ten years in resource development projects such as mine planning, regulatory strategy, policy development, and or permitting
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and consulting teams
  • Experience working with regulators and Indigenous groups
  • Knowledge and experience with compliance practices and regulations related to water quality, water quantity, aquatic health, and fish habitat
