Position Description

Reporting to a Health & Safety Senior Manager, the incumbent will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will be the Subject Matter Expert of the company\'s Electrical Safety Program.

This Electrical Safety Program establishes safe operating and maintenance policies, practices and procedural requirements, as well as effective preventive and protective risk control methods for working with energized, or in proximity to electrical equipment and systems that are low or high voltage.

In this position, the incumbent will work closely with team members across all Business Units within the organization and will take ownership in the build, implementation and maintenance of the Electrical Safety Program. Required tasks would include but not limited to:

  • Review of current program and identify opportunities for enhancement
  • Creation of business unit task force committees where required
  • Create and maintain a Single Line diagram inventory
  • Identification of employee training requirements to comply with the Electrical Safety Program
  • Work with business unit primes to ensure arc flash studies are current
  • Creation and maintenance of electrical risk assessments addressing shock and arc flash hazards
  • Creation and maintenance of PPE, Insulated tools and equipment requirements, as per job function and completed risk assessments
  • Support electrical training using the training matrix within the program
  • Implementation of the Energized Electrical Job Risk Assessment process
  • Implementation of the Live work Permit request process
  • Auditing of the Program
  • Implement change management criteria for the program
Essential skills / competencies
  • Minimum 3 years as an Electrical Engineer or extensive background in Electrical Safety
  • Solid knowledge of jurisdictional codes, acts, regulations and standards such as;
  • Federal or Provincial/Territory Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Standards, Regulations, Legislation, and Codes.
  • CAN/CSA-C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code) Part I.
  • CAN/CSA-Z460 Control of hazardous energy - Lockout and other methods.
  • CSA Z462 Workplace electrical safety Standard.
  • CSA Z463 Guideline on maintenance of electrical systems.
  • CSA Z45001 Occupational health and safety management systems.
  • CSA Z1002 Occupational health and safety - Hazard identification and elimination and risk assessment and control.
  • CSA 22.3 Overhead Systems
  • Project Management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills- Spoken and written fluency in English is essential
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint and Office suite of tools
  • Autonomous and comfortable with tight deadlines
  • Team spirit and collaboration skills

  • Some Travel may be required
Assets:
  • Health and Safety certificate, diploma, or CRSP designation in addition to
  • Electrical Engineering education is considered an asset
