Your contribution to the story:At Penguin Random House Canada, we strive to provide best-in-class service to our independent bookstore accounts by providing full account management with an eye towards positioning our books in the overall Canadian marketplace of our readers along with your team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Independent, Library and Academic Sales, you will play a key role in delivering this experience by providing the highest level of service to various internal and external stakeholders, including accounts, authors and readers.What you\'ll do:

  • Sell, market, and promote a focused number of key catalogues of Penguin Random House books to independent bookstores in your territory.
  • Grow and maximize sales by exploring community-based sales opportunities in partnership with independent booksellers.
  • Manage, provide direction, and establish expectations for two full-time District Sales Managers who are each responsible for selling a larger list of our titles between them.
  • Facilitate author and community events by working closely with the publicity team and ensuring event stock orders arrive on time.
  • Work with the editorial and marketing departments to position books through retail promotions, author appearances, and co-op opportunities.
  • Deliver sales presentations to small and large groups including store staff, and consumer and library outreach teams.
  • Actively contribute to discussions that help shape sales strategy for our titles, ensuring all stakeholders are aware of current trends and factors in the marketplace.
  • Inform customers of supply and price trends and aid with inventory control while keeping abreast of marketplace trends and adjusting sales strategy accordingly.
  • Advocate for the interests of independent bookstores based on competitor offerings, title-specific opportunities, and best-in-class tools and processes.
  • Work flexibly and actively engage with key accounts to experiment with innovative ideas in the marketplace and new ways to use co-op dollars.
Experience and knowledge you\'ll bring (qualifications):
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in account management in sales or a related field.
  • A knowledge of or interest in Canadian independent book retailers with a pronounced focus on western Canada.
  • Excellent relationship management skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • A proactive, analytical, and collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, effectively juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines, and thrive in a complex and ever-evolving market
  • Experience using tools including Microsoft Office Suite, Asana, MS Teams, and Google Docs.
  • An inclusive approach to your work, supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgrounds across all levels of a company.
  • Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience is not required but is highly valued.
  • The ability to travel and transport materials to all accounts is needed.
  • A diligent, avid, and passionate reader with a love of books!
