Job Description


Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.Position Overview:The research assistant on this project will primarily be involved with data collection, organization and analysis. This project will involve collecting data from stakeholders involved with supporting fisheries in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and then organizing and analyzing the data. There will be some literature review as well.Duties:

  • Email and follow up with individuals in government departments to request data.
  • Keep all data organized for passing on to researchers on the project.
  • Literature review - searching for academic studies which have converted non-market values into monetary value, and summarizing these papers.
  • Attending meetings of the research team.
Qualifications:
  • Either a Master's or PhD student in Economics or another discipline which involves comfort with handling data.
  • Ability to use Stata and Excel.
  • Strong writing skills for the literature review portion of the project.
  • Graphic design.
  • Good interpersonal skills and availability between Jan. 1 - March 31, 2025.
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
