Position Overview

The Department of Human Resources is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Senior Reporting Analyst with experience in analytic tools and concepts (specifically Power BI) to help advance reporting and metrics within the function.

This position is within the People Process and Solutions team in Human Resources and reports to the Specialist, HR Systems and Reporting. The Systems and Reporting team enhances and maintains HR business systems and processes and provides comprehensive HR reporting to various internal and external stakeholders.

The Senior Analyst, Reporting provides the reporting expertise to contribute to the development and implementation of strategy that supports Human Resources and the University of Calgary. This position is also responsible for collaboratively developing related policies, systems, processes and procedures with HR and external stakeholders.

The Senior Analyst, Reporting requires excellent analytic, technical, problem-solving, teamwork and customer service skills. Working in a complex, unionized academic environment, the analyst must thrive in a fast-paced, challenging work environment with competing priorities. As a part of the larger university reporting community, it is also essential that this role build productive and supportive working partnerships within the community.

The work environment is open concept with a moderate level of speech-generated noise. There may be situations that require the employee to work outside and in addition to core business hours (e.g. resolving a critical problem, validating a system change).

The primary purpose of this position is to provide information to university business leaders in support of HR and the University\'s strategic objectives. The Senior Analyst, Reporting collaborates with clients in the analysis and definition of reporting requirements and development of reporting solutions that will help client achieve their objectives.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Contributes to the design, development and implementation of integrated reporting strategies and solutions to meet the needs of internal and external clients.
  • Collaboratively ensures overall integrity of data in the HR information system, including the design, development and implementation of quality control strategies, processes and policies leading to data and issue resolution.
  • Develops and delivers quality HR reports that support the client needs, ensuring that HR information is presented accurately, in a clear, concise, and business-relevant manner
  • Strives for continuous improvement of the HR reporting function, helping evolve HR analytics and reporting to meet the ongoing and dynamic needs of university senior leadership. Develops and maintains documentation and work instructions related to reporting solutions and deliverables
  • Maintains and updates the annual calendar of events related to cyclical reporting activities, as well as an inventory of reports and queries
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with staff at all levels, maintaining a positive working relationship with client groups and co-workers
  • Develops and maintains training materials related to HR reports
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree or post-secondary certificate in a related field
  • Knowledge of SQL and Power BI is required
  • Minimum of five years demonstrated experience in HR reporting and data management, working with reporting tools such as PS Query, Cognos, Access, or Kibana
  • A combination of experience, training and education may be considered
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and MS Access preferred.
  • Experience with Human Resource Management Systems preferably in a medium to large complex, unionized setting
  • Ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, client and stakeholders
  • A proven commitment to modeling team values, partnering with others to achieve timely and accurate results
