:The Opportunity:WSP currently has an opportunity for a Senior Environmental Regulatory Specialist to join our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team. Working closely with the BC Environment team you will be responsible for managing environmental assessments for major projects across all resource sectors, leading and facilitating other natural resource related studies, providing leadership and oversight on environmental permitting, leading environmental management and monitoring programs during project implementation, and project management.In this role, you\'ll be comfortable working with Canadian federal and provincial legislation, and local government bylaws and policies relating to aquatic, terrestrial, and socioeconomic environments, and to rely on your demonstrated experience navigating EIA requirements, permitting and authorizations processes relevant to resource development projects. Experience in the EIA process in BC is essential. You will blend office and field duties and will require some travel within BC and the Yukon for short duration trips and assignments, and to provide mentorship and training to junior/intermediate personnel.A day in the life\xe2\x80\xa6

  • Planning, coordinating and executing mandates related to environmental impact studies, other forms of environmental assessments and environmental screenings, environmental permitting and authorizations;
  • Managing projects related to renewable energy, transportation, industrial development, infrastructure, mining and oil and gas sectors;
  • Evaluating Request for Proposals and prepare responses, develop work scopes, budgets and schedules, and providing project management;
  • Managing projects and our clients simultaneously while fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment;
  • Acting as a mentor for junior staff and collaborate regionally and nationally with other EIA practitioners;
  • Providing environmental and regulatory leadership and representing company projects to stakeholders including regulators, industry groups, environmental groups, landowners, First Nations, and the public;
  • Working with your colleagues to develop regional growth and financial strategies and maintain strong working relationships with key clients;
  • You will champion HS&E Commitment and underlying principles throughout the organization.
  • Preparing technical reports, permitting applications, environmental impact assessments and other associated documents;
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment, providing technical expertise to WSP groups on issues associated with ecological sciences.
We\'d love to hear from you if you have...
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Biology or a related discipline along with at least eight (8) years of relevant experience conducting environmental impact assessments, and managing projects involving biological studies;
  • A thorough understanding of the EIA requirements in the British Columbia region and knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements in project application and approvals;
  • Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports;
  • Willingness to occasionally travel, including to remote locations and outside standard office hours;
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment and under deadlines.
