Job Title Senior Quantitative Research Engineer



The Quantitative Investments team at RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) is looking for a Senior Quantitative Research Engineer with experience in tool development and data analytics for quantitative research and analysis applications. You will contribute to research projects and portfolio management initiatives that deepen investment insight and improve outcomes for Quantitative Investment's $18B of client funds.

The Quantitative Investments team employs a systematic quantitative approach to the management of equity strategies implemented via mutual funds, hedge funds, segregated accounts, and ETFs. The team takes a multi-factor approach to investment solutions. The models are data-driven and grounded in sound fundamental and economic rationale.

What will you do?

As a Senior Quantitative Research Engineer, you will:

lead the build-out of applications and visualization tools to facilitate analysis of research results and live fund performance

implement data analytics processes and computational methods required to execute research, evaluating and ensuring quality of data presented for analysis, and ensuring calculations are consistently defined and implemented across the team's analytics toolkit

play a leading role in the governance of research engineering projects

work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams (including research analysts, portfolio managers, and quantitative developers, etc.) and carry projects to completion on tight deadlines

remain at the cutting edge of quantitative analytics, financial data engineering, and visualization recognizing that we must continually evolve our investment skills and processes

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

10+ Experience in data analytics and building solutions and tools for quantitative investment applications including performance analysis, backtest analysis, statistical and machine-learning analysis, data preparation and vetting, and data visualization including development of interactive dashboards

Master's degree in Finance, Applied Economics/Econometrics/Statistics, Engineering, or Applied Science

Leadership experience including experience managing teams and/or mentoring colleagues

Strong communication and organizational skills

Possession of a broad and advanced set of technical skills required to implement data-intensive quantitative research; programming experience in Matlab, Python's scientific-computing stack, SQL, Tableau, and related technologies

Nice to Have

Deep knowledge of financial datasets

Deep knowledge of ESG and climate datasets, and experience applying this data to portfolio analysis

Completion or enrollment in CFA
