We are seeking experienced leaders with sound technical engineering practices, contract management and project management skills to join our team in Vancouver. Responsible for project management including design, contract administration and inspection of civil infrastructure works projects. Responsible for the day-to-day contact with the client and for meeting project fiduciary and schedule requirements. Involves oversight and management of other project team members and stakeholders. Responsibilities:
Project Responsibilities

  • Responsible for multiple, simultaneous projects, managing internal and external resources
  • Independently develop and manage detailed project budgets from conception through project closeout.
  • Independently develop project schedules, incorporating all aspects of the project, including due diligence, design phase and construction phases
  • Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) documents including terms of reference for design and construction administration proposals from external consultants. Evaluate, compare, level proposals, and recommend consultant selection
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, suppliers, and contractors
  • Coordinate and oversee design process in accordance with the approved schedule
  • Review and approving engineering design and drafting work
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients
  • Provide value engineering suggestions and project strategy recommendations to keep the project within budget
  • Plan, organize and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems
  • Prepare and review specifications, cost estimates, plans and contract documents related to public work projects and check similar data performed by others
  • Evaluate tenders and ensures conformance of contractor work to municipal standards and specifications, working closely with contractors in understanding and administering projects
  • Provide frequent progress reports to the client keeping them informed of overall project issues including budget, schedule and risk status
  • Maintain relationship with primary client contacts, ensuring expectations are continuously met and maintained
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, financial issues and construction problems
  • Work closely with a wide variety of internal and external contacts, including the public, consultants, contractors, city inspectors, administration staff, operations and maintenance staff, in providing information and assistance on matters related to the work
  • Track critical path items to ensure timely project completion and adjust project strategy when needed to ensure compliance with project schedule
  • Review and approve monthly contractor and vendor invoices
  • Manage, collect, collate and distribute closeout documentation to all parties

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Oversee & direct other project resources assigned to project(s) for which you are responsible, providing direction and mentorship
  • Prepare proposals for project management services, including developing fee structure
  • Develop knowledge of internal processes and procedures for tracking and documenting projects
  • Maintain all project files in accordance with AY PJM standards and protocols

Business Development Responsibilities
  • Participate in industry organizations (EGBC, CoreNet, PMI, etc.), attending events, participating on committees, and leveraging relationships for networking and lead development
  • Develop relationships with consultants and vendors
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with AY colleagues in other service lines
Qualifications:
  • A university degree in Engineering. Civil preferred.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng)
  • PMP preferred
  • Ten years of municipal infrastructure design and construction experience, with associated experience in project management and contract administration. (Can be from in house at a municipality or on consulting side)
  • Experience in a municipal public works setting as well as experience within an SAP or computer- based work environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license for the Province of British Columbia is required
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Smartsheet
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve
  • Use of good judgment and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work closely with, manage and collaborate effectively with a diversity of stakeholders
  • Willingness to be flexible
  • Works with integrity, dependability, and cooperation
