Position Title: Aquatics Senior Program Instructors (2 vacancies)
Reports To: Coordinator, Programs
Status: 2 Vacancy: Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Location: Variety Village, Scarborough, ON

Located in southwestern Scarborough, Variety Village is an inclusive, adaptive and family friendly facility

recreation programming, outreach and education, Variety promotes inclusion and healthy living through
adapted physical activity.

Position Summary:
Variety Village is currently seeking 2 Full-Time Senior Program Instructors to assist in the delivery of
front line programs for a wide range of demographics. The successful candidates will be enthusiastic
individuals who are able to adapt programs to promote inclusion and meet the needs of people with
disabilities and as well as able-bodied clientele. To be successful in this role, the successful candidates
will be able to adapt to the varying needs and responses to Covid-19 and the impact on the organization
and program delivery. A flexible, hands on, team focused approach to work will be essential.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Facilitating active programming, including aquatics to promote inclusion and well-being;  Ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for program participants;  Overseeing the safety of members who using the Fieldhouse, Cardio and Weight room and
pools;  Promoting active living opportunities and participation for people with disabilities;  Assisting with equipment maintenance ensuring it is regularly checked and in good/safe working
order;  Being acutely familiar with emergency protocols and procedures;  Responding to emergencies as required;  Positive, proactive approach to work and able to lead by example;  Participating in promoting teamwork including motivating/assisting other staff, reporting to
Coordinators as necessary; 
Maintaining accurate participant attendance and evaluation records;  Attending staff meetings as required; including staff in-service sessions;  Participating in and adhering to mandatory training, including, but not limited to: Plan to
Protect, AODA ,Covid-19, and Health and Safety;  Becoming familiar with and adhering to established Variety Village policies and procedures;  Other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies and Qualifications:  Experience in adapted physical education and instruction;  Valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED is required;  NLS and Swim Instructor Certificates are mandatory;  Post-secondary education in Recreation / Leisure, Sports Administration, Physical Education a
strong asset;  Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills;  The ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekends;  Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team;
