DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of our Energy Vertical Process Engineering team, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

Project Management

  • Liaising between clients and operations staff, equipment vendors and third-party contractors in project planning and execution in areas of specialization;
  • Conducting independent studies, operating data analyses, interpretations and conclusions within the scope of various assigned projects;
  • Able to clearly and concisely communicate and provide pro-active and independent recommendations to clients;
  • Coordinating completion of Process Engineering tasks and deliverables with other engineering disciplines within McIntosh Perry;
  • Managing Process engineering personnel and providing oversight and mentoring through the execution of multiple client projects;
  • Provide input and direction to drafting personnel and project administration staff, as required;
  • Prepare and implement project scope specifications, manpower / cost estimations and budgetary support for project controls;
  • Knowledge of and ability to support Management of Change (MOC) processes;
  • Contribute to the development of Scope of Work and Request for Proposal packages for procurement processes; and
  • Participate in the ongoing development of McIntosh Perry engineering standards and procedures.
Technical Capabilities
  • Providing competent and independent technical direction within the Process Engineering Group, as well as to other departments;
  • Licensed and capable to take professional responsibility for authentication (stamping) of Process Engineering work packages and drawings;
  • Able to carry out and evaluate conceptual and detailed equipment / system design calculations, utilizing a variety of tools from spreadsheet-based, to rigorous process simulation methods (Hysys, Symmetry, Promax, Pipesim);
  • Carry out system capacity and debottlenecking studies for existing upstream petroleum production, processing and transportation facilities and pipelines;
  • Capable of performing detailed design and rating of common energy facility unit operations (Separation, Compression, Refrigeration, Stabilization, Fractionation, Amine Sweetening, Heat Exchangers, Acid Gas Injection, Emulsion Treating, Heat Medium systems, Flare and Depressurization systems);
  • Proficient to prepare technical reports / studies for communication with clients;
  • Competently prepare, review and revise as needed PFDs, P&IDs, Heat & Material Balances, equipment data sheets, Control Philosophies / Narratives, as well as Shut Down Keys;
  • Provide process specifications for the design and operation of equipment;
  • Able to assess and ensure vendor-supplied equipment meets project design and code requirements through technical document review process;
  • Competently provide Process Engineering inputs to Design Basis Memorandums (DBM) and Project Execution Plans (PEP);
  • Providing mentorship, technical oversight, teaching and support to other more junior engineers as needed;
  • Knowledgeable in correct application of relevant design standards, regulations, codes and guidelines applicable for a given Scope of Work;
  • Ensuring that process designs meet recommended and required safety standards through active participation in HAZOP and similar reviews;
  • Facility / system troubleshooting, utilizing technical expertise and providing independent recommendations / solutions to clients; and
  • Ensuring and maintaining the quality and timeliness of Process Engineering deliverables within the project.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited university with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience;
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA;
  • Must have strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with multi-disciplinary personnel and clients;
  • Previous comparable EPCM experience is considered an asset;
  • Field / Operational exposure and facility Troubleshooting experience is essential;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Substantial Process design experience greenfield and brownfield facility projects within the conventional upstream oil and gas market; with specific exposure to sweet and sour gas plants and oil facilities;
  • Proficient in review and development of PFD\xe2\x80\x99s, P&ID\xe2\x80\x99s, equipment design and sizing, as well as HAZOP and general troubleshooting support;
  • Ability to prepare and evaluate Process simulations using common platforms including HYSYS, Symmetry, Promax and Pipesim;
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial and federal design codes and safety regulations;
  • Mature experience in engineering work planning, risk management and achieving deliverables within established budget and timeline requirements;
  • Experience making independent decisions within area of expertise;
  • Travel as required to field locations to perform assessments and to help ensure the successful execution / commissioning of projects; and
  • Willingness to work and adapt in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
