AECOM Buildings + Places, our Architectural design practice, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience working in laboratory design to work on science and technology laboratory projects. This position could be based out of any of our Canadian offices.

Job Summary:

  • Serves as lead engineer on laboratory projects.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff\'s specific area of expertise.
  • Approves and signs off on work.
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Participates in development of technical proposals.
  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree, with a professional engineering license (P.Eng.)
  • Eight (8)+ years of experience, within an engineering consultancy, in the mechanical design (heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, controls) for science and technology and institutional facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must demonstrate a vast understanding of HVAC system concepts, as specifically applicable to laboratory design.
  • An in depth and sound understanding of laboratory airflow principles; ventilation equipment exhaust requirements; OSHA, ANSI, ASHRAE and NFPA regulations; fume hood testing and laboratory controls.
  • Proven ability to lead the delivery of solutions for laboratory projects (educational, pharmaceutical, biomedical, cleanrooms, research).
  • Experience with high performance lab technologies, high-performance fume hoods, chilled beams and water-based laboratory cooling, IEQ based laboratory ventilation, and lab management.
  • Proficiency with designing, managing, and construction supervision of complex new construction and renovation laboratory projects
  • Perform field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal): articulate, assertive and confident. Advanced report writing abilities are a must.
  • Strong mechanical management skills, with ability to lead and supervise a team of mechanical designers, and drafters on science and technology laboratory projects.
  • Work closely and coordinate with owners, in-house and/or external architects, interior designers, engineering disciplines, and sub-consultants.
  • Demonstrated abilities in client management. Work on multiple projects, with clients of varying needs, and possess the ability to retain and grow such relationships.
  • A team player with the ability to nurture and thrive in a collaborate work environment.
  • Able to work independently, showing initiative, and creative thinking.
  • LEED AP

  • Experience with sustainable design
  • Knowledge of Revit
