Our team is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be part of our engineering team working on project work in the office and be available for site visits. The role will focus on mining projects with opportunities to support other sectors as well. The Mechanical Engineer is broadly responsible for working with a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Project Leads to manage and deliver project mechanical scope. Activities typically include defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets, technical evaluations, vendor data management and reports. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer is required to develop, or provide input to, 3D models and 2D drawings.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Mechanical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations such as hydraulic calculations (including slurry calculations), piping stress analysis, line sizing, pump selection, tank sizing and conveyor calculations.
  • Manage and prepare mechanical equipment lists.
  • Perform system analyses, establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and establish system layouts and designs.
  • Lead preparation and/or review of project standard specifications and design criteria.
  • Lead preparation of technical specifications packages and perform technical bid evaluations for procurement of mechanical equipment.
  • Lead preparation of piping deliverables including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), piping material specifications, system layouts and designs, pipe support standard, and piping lists/MTOs.
  • Work with and manage equipment vendors to develop designs to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports and trade-off studies.
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
  • Prepare or provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical/piping drawings.
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
  • Assist with technical queries raised during the construction phase and commissioning of systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8 plus years post graduate experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • Demonstrated design and engineering experience in mining, metals, minerals processing or heavy industry environment.
  • Excellent attitude towards safety.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between disciplines.
  • Sound knowledge of 3D data centric design systems.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering management systems.
  • Experience with Mechanical software -eg. AFT Fathom, Sidewinder.
  • Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
