Job Title Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance



What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance is an integral member of Canadian Banking Compliance\xe2\x80\x99s Advisory team and leads and provides strategic insight, direction and support to the Business Financial Services (BFS) and RBCx lines of businesses. Ensures ongoing compliance with applicable Market Conduct Obligations, which is paramount to Compliance\xe2\x80\x99s North Star vision and strategic priorities. The role is the primary relationship manager and subject matter expert to the BFS and RBCx lines of businesses and liaises with management and functional partners to mitigate risk exposures and regulatory scrutiny by proactively engaging in risk assessments and controls oversight, along with escalating compliance issues and overseeing client and system remediation activities.

What will you do?

  • Uses strategic and critical thinking skills and strong understanding of the business and Market Conduct Obligations to assess transformational initiatives, regulatory changes and areas exposed to regulatory scrutiny by working with the business, compliance and functional partners to advise on risk mitigants.
  • Key member of the working teams conducting / approving risk assessments and overseeing activities needed to mitigate regulatory compliance risks and ensures the lines of businesses remain well-controlled.
  • Empowers first line risk ownership to foster an environment which maximizes efficient and effective practices in regulatory compliance risk management.
  • Works with the BFS and RBCx lines of businesses to ensure regulatory and policy matters are well understood and actively managed by assisting through answering questions, researching issues and providing recommendations, identifying and escalating execution gaps and operationalizing compliance policy requirements in a complete and timely manner.
  • Responsible to proactively stay engaged with the BFS and RBCx lines of businesses on their strategic initiatives.
  • Proactively manages and mitigates regulatory and legal risks and strikes the right balance of supporting business partners, while keeping clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs, interests and experience at the centre of all decisions.
  • Uses strong business acumen to advise and provide effective challenge to business and compliance partners on regulatory compliance issues, root cause analysis, actions and remediation plans in line with FCAC expectations and requirements.
  • Identifies areas of improvement and automation possibilities for key processes and creatively collaborates with others to lead projects to implement changes to improve scalability and velocity and embrace agile practices.

Must-have
  • Strong business acumen, strategic, critical thinker with natural curiosity and an always learning growth mindset.
  • Analytical thinking and an ability to triangulate multiples sources of data and information to draw meaningful trends and insights. Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborator with deep organizational awareness who will build credibility quickly and who will impact and influence partners across the organization (Canadian Banking, Compliance, Legal and other functional partners) and stakeholders and builds critical internal and external relationships across the organization.
  • Must be able to work proactively and agile against tight timelines. Self-starter that takes initiative with the ability to work independently and as an integral part of the Canadian Banking Compliance Team. Highly organized, detail oriented and experienced project management skills and execution excellence.
  • Fosters innovation and promotes diversity of thought, brings forward refreshing perspectives, constructively challenges to generate new ideas and opportunities.
Nice-to-have
  • Knowledge of Canadian Banking, BFS, RBCx and/or work experience in areas such as risk management, audit, or compliance.
  • Experience interpreting regulations, including market conduct obligations.
  • Professional designation, MBA or equivalent preferred.
