We are hiring a one (1) Full Time, Permanent Senior Manager , Planning & Architecture position in Edmonton, AB!


The Senior Manager, Planning & Architecture is responsible for planning and architecting business and technology solutions for Electricity, Energy Services, Technologies, Corporate Services, and other business units as needed. This includes ensuring that each business unit\'s Operating Plans, Technology Growth strategy, and existing and upcoming technologies can be used to accomplish strategic objectives in a cost-effective manner.


The Senior Manager, Planning & Architecture is accountable to the Director, Application Services and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Director.

  • Develop yearly and 5-year rolling IT Capital plans and Architecture Roadmaps for Electricity, Energy Services, Technologies, and Corporate Services. Responsibility includes Leadership and overall coordination of Application Services and Infrastructure Operations planning functions to complete.
  • Ensure the existing architecture standards are adhered to and refined as necessary, including providing solution architecture guidance to projects, operations, and functional team members.
  • Strategically plan and identify the necessary budget requirements, as well as the provision of business solutions, the use of existing and emerging technology in direct alignment with business partners and overall EUI long-term strategic goals, and the acquisition and development of optimal human resources talent pools.
  • Assess competition and market opportunities and threats, perform research and be familiar with emerging technologies that fit within EPCOR\xe2\x80\x99s environment, and develop and implement relevant plans to improve the function\'s operational effectiveness.
  • Establish, monitor, measure and report performance metrics. Analyze and identify issues impacting performance and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure IT solutions are timely and in direct alignment with Business Unit and overall EUI strategic goals.
  • Collaborate on and assist in the completion of each Business Unit\'s annual Application Services and Infrastructure Operations Business Systems and Architecture plans.
  • Collaborate on and assist in completing technical architecture assessments and installations for Application Services initiatives.
  • Thorough understanding of distribution and transmission services and regulatory framework, including an understanding of the systems required to support these lines of business throughout North America.
  • Identify emerging technologies and investigate the applicability to each Business Unit. Promote and adopt corporate IS architectural standards, guidelines and methodologies.
  • Develop and nurture a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented organization that is easy to do business with.
What\xe2\x80\x99s required to be successful
  • Diploma or Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems or Degree in Business with related experience (10+).
  • 5+ years experience with IT control processes.
  • 5+ years experience with managing large scale IT systems implementations.
  • 5+ years experience progressively responsible leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of the Systems Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) including custom-build and commercial off the self (COTS) implementation frameworks.
  • Ability to structure and deliver long range (1-2 years) Capital Delivery planning.
  • Strong knowledge of Regulatory frameworks.
  • Considerable, progressive experience developing and maintaining successful organization level and detailed IS architectures including understanding technical and business functionality and relationships.
  • A good understanding of new and emerging technology trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, present and recommend efficient technical solutions to business opportunities and challenges.
  • Extensive system integration experience primarily with large, complex systems.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills in advising and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
