The Opportunity:

We\'re looking for a curious, driven and connected strategic communications professional to lead Aviso\'s media relations and thought leadership activities in our growing Communications & Corporate Sustainability team.

This role can be mostly remote, however we will on occasion require you to come onsite to our office at 151 Yonge St, Toronto, ON.

Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Senior Manager, Media Relations and Thought Leadership is an impeccable writer, gifted multi-platform storyteller and adept editor who can spot a fresh angle, craft a compelling narrative, and translate trends into insight-driven thought leadership.

The Senior Manager, Media Relations and Thought Leadership will elevate Aviso\'s profile and reputation by driving media relations and thought leadership that supports our vision and business strategy. They will apply their sharp business acumen and understanding of the Canadian financial services ecosystem to deliver the right story to the right audience at the right time.

What your day looks like:
  • Collaborate with the Director, Communications and VP, Communications & Corporate Sustainability to execute Aviso\'s media relations strategy and translate organizational narratives into insightful, engaging thought leadership
  • Collaborate with Communications and Marketing colleagues to identify and develop storytelling opportunities that support Aviso\'s culture, vision, business priorities and growth ambitions
  • Monitor the Canadian financial services ecosystem for developments and trends, and identify opportunities for Aviso to shape and lead conversations
  • Research, write, and edit best-in-class content, including op-eds, articles, remarks, whitepapers, infographics, video scripts, and pitches
  • Transform data into accessible, audience-centric stories for internal and external audiences
  • Work with senior leaders across Aviso to transform narratives into exciting media opportunities and bespoke, trust-building thought leadership
  • Champion a dynamic, plain language writing style across all external communications activities
  • Work with colleagues and agency partners to ensure a consistent editorial voice across communications activities
  • Bring creativity and innovation to thought leadership ideation and development-find novel ways to articulate the Aviso story
  • Effectively manage multiple projects at a time and foster collaboration across shared services and business lines
  • Establish and grow relationships with key media and influencers to raise Aviso\'s profile with priority audiences and markets
  • Support senior leadership with crisis communications plans and activities, including crafting key messages, monitoring developments, and offering trusted advice
  • Identify, train and coach authorized Aviso spokespeople
  • Serve as Aviso\'s key media relations contact
Requirements:

Your experience and skills:
  • A seasoned communications professional with 8+ years of experience in strategic communications, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Journalism, English, Communications or another related field
  • Previous experience in financial services is required
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset
  • Nimble, adaptable writing style that includes media pitches, op-eds, long-form thought leadership and snappy digital copy
  • Ability to connect the dots across economic, social, demographic and media trends and understand how they shape the Canadian financial services ecosystem
  • Strong persuasion and presentation skills
  • Seasoned substantive and copy editor-you can spot gaps in narratives and a misplaced semicolon
  • Proven ability to simplify technical information and data into plain language
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, stakeholders, and business demands
  • Previous experience advising executive leaders on media relations best practices is a significant asset
  • Strategic, creative, and critical thinker who isn\'t afraid to challenge assumptions and experiment with form and content
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity in an organization undergoing growth and change
  • A quick, self-directed learner who knows when to be strategic and when to be tactical
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional client service

Salary

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $103,000 - $131,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
